Personal Narrative: Overcoming My Fear Of Roller Coasters

Decent Essays
It was a luminous and beautiful day in Hot Springs, Arkansas at Magic Springs, and all of my best friends were with me. I knew that my friends were going to want to ride a roller coaster, but I was terrified of them. Roller coasters had been my number one fear until that day, but I overcame that fear that day. On a tropical and humid day the first roller coaster that my friends and I rode was not as atrocious as I thought it would be, consequently, I had decided to ride it. I had overcame my fear of riding a brusque roller coaster, but now it was just going to become more arduous for me. Each roller coaster that we rode on, I became less and less anxious. We rode many roller coasters that day, therefore, my fear of roller coasters became

A few years ago, on a class trip, my friends had asked me to ride at least one roller coaster. It was not a large roller coaster, but it made me queasy just looking at it. I was confident that I would be able to go on and enjoy the experience. My confidence quickly evaporated when we began climbing up the roller coaster’s first hill. The ride dropped, and I was screaming so loudly that I could only hear myself.…

Well I had gone to Six Flags and when I had got there I was so anxious to get on every ride in Six Flags but then I had heard a person on the Goliath scream ”stop the ride” it was so funny and scary at the same time. Then I saw that almost every ride had so many twists and turns and even circles that go round and round. Last year I had gone on a roller coaster which was the Mind Bender and it wasn’t so scary. The Mind Bender had so many circles that go round and round.…

Sit back, buckle up, and get ready to scream because I love roller coasters. My family and I go to Cedar Point about every month in the summer, and my dad and I go and ride everything in the park. It is just so fun! The one thing I really like about roller coasters is that there are little rides for the youth kids also. My least favorite thing is when I am not tall enough to enjoy a ride, which doesn’t really occur anymore.…

When I was about 12 years old my dad took me to Disneyland to ride the Mount Everest roller coaster. This was going to be my first ever roller coaster so I was pretty excited. However, my excitement quickly turned to fear when the ride started moving. It was too fast, too high, and too loud for 12 year old me.…

In fact, if you have a fear that is just as bad as riding a roller coaster you can get over it, just like humans watch horror movies the face their fears and overcome them. Another example, in “Why We Crave Horror” Stephen King states that “horror movies may not surprise a scream out of us at some point, the way we may scream when the roller coaster twist through a complete 360 or plows through a lake at the bottom drop”(King “Why We Crave” 2). This explains that yes a scary movie can make you scared or afraid, but a roller coaster can make you feel scared but excited at the same…

I waited, very shaky in the long line to go on Rockin’ Rollercoaster. It was a warm day where the sun was shining down and I was pacing back and forth the whole morning in the hotel room. I had terrible butterflies in my stomach. Waiting in line felt like forever, but in all reality not much time had past.…

As I was brushing my teeth, I remembered what my cousin Sam had said to me the day before. "I, Sam Duncan," he declared, "am getting you on a roller coaster if it's the last thing I ever do. " I had laughed and said he was crazy. I was terrified of heights (I had fairly major acrophobia).…

When I was about nine years old, my family was debating about going to Cedar Point the upcoming weekend. I hadn't rode many roller coasters in my life at that time because I was only nine. Of course, trying to be manly, I totally agreed with their decision. My parents told me how big the roller coasters are, and how the roller coasters are some of the biggest in the world. I acted like I wasn't scared, and was talking about how I didn't care about the size of the roller coasters.…

I was determined to conquer my fears of heights and roller coasters. The day was growing old and the sun began to set. We had been standing in line for what seemed like hours. My legs ached from standing up and I was longing for a refreshing drink to cool me off. I honestly thought we would never make it to the ride; that we might as well turn around and go home before I could whimp out again.…

The paper was passed around the room, until it got to me. I stared at the paper for several moments, undecided on whether or not to go. I had never been on a roller coaster before, let alone seen one. On one hand, I was somewhat terrified thinking of the rides. On the other, the thought of skipping school and having the time of my life with my friends also made me excited.…

Yesterday, I took my girls to Kings Island, something that has kept them well busy over the summer. I am not the one to ride rides let alone big roller coasters. I usually am the bag holder while I sit and wait when they jump from one ride to the next. Usually I stand off to the side or find an empty bench, pop out my phone and keep to myself. But I thought this time it would be the perfect opportunity to break the norm and allow me to complete this assignment.…

Life is a roller coaster no one lined up to get on. It’s something you never chose, and it’s something you only have two options in: get off, or stay on. There are people who would rather jump off the roller coaster while it’s going full speed than sit the entire ride, and you have to understand that. Some people aren’t built for roller coasters; they’re built for the small kids rides. That’s…
