Over Population of Twins
The birthrates of having more than one child has doubled from 1980 until now. In 1980 out of every 1000 births, 19 were sets of twins. In 2009 every 34 births were sets of twins. Not only in twins but also in triplets and so on? It seems as if more and more people are having twins or multiple births every year. Women have twins or multiple child births when multiple eggs are fertilized. However, if there is a set of identical twins, then the zygote or fertilized egg will split into two parts and that is how twins become identical. Is there many sets of twins in your family and you may think that the gene is passed on? Only in sets of fraternal twins, can genes be passed on. So if your mother had fraternal twins you

Because I am a twin I have always found it interesting why and how I became a twin. But now, there are so many twins that I know that have been born after me, that it just seemed crazy to think that more than just the genetics would be involved in the birth rate increasing. There are two types of twins. The first is if there is a set of identical twins, then the zygote or fertilized egg will split into two parts and that is how twins become identical. The second type is fraternal where two completely different eggs get fertilized and both grow at the same time in two different placentas. There are many different reasons that women are starting to have more sets of twins instead of birthing single babies. Being a bigger woman, already being a twin, being older when you get pregnant, hormones, In Vitro Fertilization and Nutrition all have rolls in determining whether you will have …show more content…
Not only by the size of the waist but by height as well. In the 1980s, America’s obesity rate was 15%. Unlike today where it is around 42%. As women continue to grow bigger and bigger they will be more likely to have twins. “As the mothers BMI (body mass index) increased, the more likely they were to have twins” Miranda Hitti a senior medical writer for WebMD. This only is a correlation in fraternal twins. Identical twins have no like to have an increase based on the mother’s size. Also, if you are located in the top 25th percentile in height for women, that increases your chances of having twins as well.
Another way to have an increased chance of giving birth to twins is if you are already a twin. If you are already a twin, you are more likely to have twins because your body will drop more eggs each time you menstruate. According to twinstwice.com, “If you are a twin, the chances of having a set of twins is 1 in 17. However if you are not then it decreases to 1 in every 285.” Because I am a twin, if and when I get pregnant, I will be prepared for twins because the odds are in my favor. Not only does being a twin increase your chances of giving birth to twins, but so does being

The biological factors those effect on depression including; genes, hormones, and brain chemicals. It is suggested that there is a trait that codes for depression in humans, as depression often runs in families. However, this cannot be confirmed because the prevalence within families could be due to the environment created as results of the disorder. According to findings of Nurnberger and Gershon in 1982, the MZ twins had a concordance rate of %65 (both twins are had depression) while the DZ twins had a concordance rate of 14%. According to Sullivan (2000), the MZ twins were more than twice as likely to develop depression if their co-twin had it than DZ twins.…

Many people feel like abortion should be illegal, but personally I strongly disagree. To tell one what they can and can't do by taking the option of abortion yet promote that we are in the "Land of the Free" is nothing but hypocrisy and ignorance at its most absolute form.…

A 6-month old baby boy is the first baby to be born using DNA from three people, hence given the name, three parent baby. The technique used to make the baby is called spindle transfer. In the process, the membrane surrounding the nucleus breaks down from two unfertilized egg cells each from the donor and the mother (Saey 2016). As chromosome are divided, they are attached to protein fibers called spindles (Saey 2016).…

There is something that makes me stand out from others: my younger twin sister, Sophia, and I are fraternal twins. Although we’re fraternal twins who technically don't look alike, my sister and I share almost identical facial and body features, to the point where people wouldn’t be able to recognize who is who from the back. This is why there is always confusion between our friends about if the person they are greeting is the right twin, (and most of the time it is not). Most people would get angry if someone mistook them for another person. This, however, is not the case for me.…

The hypothesis of the research is that grit is a significant prediction of academic achievement. The researchers also want to understand more about the etiology of grit, its genetic and environmental origins. They want to know why individuals differ in grit and why the way they develop their grits are different (Rimfeld, Dale, Kovas and Plomin, 2016).…

Exposure to viruses before birth as well as complications leading to oxygen loss during birth are both factors. Heredity definitely plays a role, although it is more a combination of genetics and environment. When one has a close relative with the disease their odds increase from 1% of the population, to roughly 10%.…

Ancient DNA • Summary: Ancient DNA is DNA that has been extracted extinct specimens. It can be used to study evolution and genomic consequences of long term environmental change. We can make species un-extinct by using the ancient DNA and then use this DNA to fertilize an embryo. However, the technology to do this is not available yet as no species have had their full genome sequenced. In addition, it is hard to find a surrogate to create an individual from this DNA.…
