My brother and I were having a nice picnic by arch rock, eating grilled cheese sandwiches, when I noticed a strange shimmer in the unique formation. “Does Arch Rock look like it’s shimmering to you?” I asked my brother, wondering if I was hallucinating. He glanced over at the formation and a look of curiosity quickly spread across his face, answering my question. “Yeah, it does,” he replied as he set down his sandwich and stood up. “Let’s investigate.”
He abandoned the picnic to hike towards the strange shimmer and I followed him. As we hiked across the wooded landscape, the shimmer became more and more obvious. Soon, we were standing right in front

As the daughter of parents who love to travel, I’ve had the pleasure of travelling across Canada and America as well as a few other countries from a young age. I have visited the loud and bustling streets of Tokyo and the ethereal gardens in Kyoto, stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon, walked the strip in Las Vegas, and watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean in Martha’s Vineyard. Although I should be able to look back on a childhood filled with events and memories from trips, I find it difficult to recall most vacations without a visual prompt. When I flip through old family photo albums, I don’t recall much more than what is shown in their pages. The outdated clothing, the people, and the locations are seen in the images, and therefore…

At this very moment, NASA’S Dawn Spacecraft is closing in on the dwarf planet Ceres, which meeks out its lonely existence out in the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter, that ring slowly spinning beyond the inner planets’ orbits, separating us from the gas giants, the oort cloud, and that vast emptiness beyond. However, Dawn’s approach of Ceres has already been so Chock Full of odd surprises that astronomers are unsure what to make of the dwarf planet. For starters, NASA aired a video last Thursday limning a bizarre and vibrant glowing and shining series of streaks flying across the slant of a massive pyramid-shaped mountain. This big mountain is so gigantic that, measuring in at 20,000 feet, it easily overshadows Alaska’s Mount McKinley.…

The Montrose Precipice I It all went back to the summer of 1932 when tragedy struck; its affect was wide-spread in the community, most of it at least. Little occurred in Montrose, Colorado, but what it lacked excitement, it made up for in character. Stories arose, those about the precipice, the ancient precipice, home to a demon, or so they say.…

The Infiltrator As the transport entered Acadia 4’s atmosphere, the friction of the descent unleashed an aura of dense orange flames. A park in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, has a huge boulder field of musical rocks. Visitors to the park bring hammers, sticks, railroad spikes, and other odd things, to “play” the musical rocks. When tapped with a hammer, another rock, or other things, about one-third of the rocks in the field make a high-pitched melody that seems impossible to be ringing from a rock. At first, scientists thought it was strange that they never saw any wild animals in the boulder field.…

I was in the center of a great gothic church almost entirely made up of grey stone. Surrounding the church and in little bits within the interior there was a rough seaweed like moss that hung from the stone or grew up from the yard that was in shades of bright pink and apple green. It did not occur to me right away what I was doing there as I scanned up and down the assembly of well dressed people sitting in folding chairs, since the church did not have pews. At the entrance before entering the church stood a woman in a wedding dress.…
