When the average person thinks of a vegan, they think of a health-conscious, active, and hearty person. But what if a vegan was just as unhealthy as an omnivore who dines on McDonald’s over four times a week? In The Omnivore’s Dilemma, author Michael Pollan explains the importance of fulfilling all nutritional needs. The human population generally thinks of vegans as ultra-aware of their food, but what if the vegan diet causes the same problems it was designed to prevent? People should not pursue the vegan diet because it causes heart issues and is chemically based.…

In recent years, the outcry of people against genetically modified food, or GM food, has become increasingly prominent in both commercial and governmental practices. GM foods have a negative connotation; people think that eating something that has been modified is going to poison their body. Not only that, but most of the American public believes that in doing this, humans are playing god, and have gone too far. However, none of this is true. So far, none of the GM food currently on the market has any ill-effects on humans.…
In her article “The Ethical Dilemma of Genetically Modified Food”, Valeria Jefferson presents the conflict society is currently facing in the matter of the inherent ethics of genetically modified food (GMF). She addresses points on both sides of the argument, giving the reader a broad overview of the facts. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are defined as plants and animals that have been altered at the genetic level for a specific purpose. That purpose could be to enhance resistance to pests and inclement weather, to allow for longer and more bountiful growing seasons, or to introduce desired nutrients. In addition to being better for the environment due to the decreased need for harmful chemicals, GMF is seen as a potential solution for the pervading hunger in third world countries.…
I am contacting you today about GMO and GMO-free foods. States are voicing their own opinions as to whether or not they should be in control of labeling food products. I believe a national standard of labeling is a better option. The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 would ensure the Food and Drug Administration is in charge of food labels instead of individual states developing their own regulations. By creating a nationwide certification process for GMO-free foods, this process will save many consumers for even higher grocery bills and confusing label changes as they travel from state to state.…
Years went by where I never questioned my food thinking it was normal to eat meat, everyone told me it was what our bodies needed. We needed to eat meat and chicken it is our protein. We needed milk it is where we get our calcium. Commercials played on TV and I saw the delicious food being advertised and I would think to myself I want to try that it looks so good. At school, they served us meat, eggs, milk that was providing us a healthy nutritious meal.…
Cody Mertz Mrs. Bauch 8th Block 16 May 2016 Did you know that using genetically modified organisms decreases the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide, which decreases the risk of global warming. Not using GMOs will increase the use of pesticides, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and fertilizers. Today, I will try to persuade you why GMOs should be used in everyday farming. GMO is short for Genetically Modified Organism, which means that food and drink are injected with a genetically modified organism to give the food or drink a certain flavor or taste that it cannot make itself. Organisms can also have foreign genes inserted into them, almost the same thing as Genetically Modified Organisms but they come from animals, plants, and sometimes humans, instead of other foods (GMO Education).…
With the rate at which our planets population is growing, what are we going to eat when we run out of room to plant crops, raise animals? There is always the option of genetically modified organisms or GMO’s, meats that are grown in labratories, algae, or even insects, but all of these are “temporary fixes” to the real problem. How can we sustainably survive on this planet at all if we continue down this path of over consumption? According to the Non GMO Project, GMO’s are defined as living organisms whose genetic material has been altered via genetic engineering in a laboratory (GMO Facts, 2016).…
The Benefits of Raising a Vegetarian Child In the last decade, many Americans have transitioned to a vegetarian diet. With this shift, they have also transitioned their children into these diets as well. This change has been very controversial because most think that children will not receive the correct nutrition on a vegetarian diet. In the article “Against Meat”, written by Jonathan Foer, the idea of raising children vegetarian is discussed a great deal.…
Mr. Clark and Fellow Classmates I would like to bring your attention to these pictures for a moment. By a show of hands, does anyone see a difference in these foods? The picture to the top has organic foods. The foods shown in the picture on the bottom have been genetically modified with genes from other organisms, such as bacteria.…
When proteins and vitamin neglection takes place, body growth and health are forsaken. Although some parents become vegan, children and…
Every day young adults across the nation consume food purchased by their parents, lunches prepared by their school cafeterias, and meals from their favorite restaurants, and are unconcerned and unaware of the ingredients contained in food products, and furthermore do not partake in choosing what they consume. Unfortunately, teenagers are consuming Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) almost constantly, whether they realize it or not. GMOs first commercialized in 1994, are genetically engineered through a process which consists of inserting foreign DNA from bacteria, viruses, animals, and humans into their primary species, resulting in various unintentional health consequences (GMO Awareness). The plethora of unknown results stemming from this genetic modification process, raise the important question of whether GMOs are safe for humans. Without further action, the human population will remain endangered due to the negative health effects of the genetic modification process, and young adults will continue to be most susceptible to these threats because of their unfinished development.…
GMOs: Are they good or bad? Humans have developed the world so much to the point where our population is getting out of hand and continues to grow. The world can only sustain a certain amount of people and food to feed its inhabitants. After an extreme growth in population; many countries have changed to genetically modified foods. I want to investigate the effects of GMO foods on human health and the environment.…
