Personal Narrative-Operatio Operation

The buzzer in the classic game of Operation kept ringing off as my companions and I were playing this frustrating game. The room echoed with “Ahhhs” and sighs as the plastic organs kept colliding with the surrounding cavities, while we were taking them out of impossible positions. I have always coveted to be a surgeon ever since I was a little child, and Operation was the primary testing ground of my skills. I know what you are going to say, “It’s such a childish game. It is not like the real thing at all.” I thought that same, but when I continuously lost, my frustration grew higher and higher. Losing any sort of game, makes me want to play it more. I do not want to call it stubbornness, but rather my competitive nature to always win and be persistent until my goal is reached. A surgeon does not have the simplest jobs because they have to encounter new walls in the field and push them down, and I want to be a person who demolishes them. The game had the presence of a high level of pressure, the goal for the patient to live, and the essential need for skill and maneuverability--all the ingredients needed to create a perfect training simulation for a surgeon. …show more content…
While time passed, I started to not only see the stunning world of surgery, but also the remarkable blessing of serving people in need. In my spare time from school or extracurricular activities, I would be either observing youtube videos on different surgical techniques or engaging in various community service activities such as working in a food bank, soup kitchen, or simply organizing a can drive. Although, there was always a small part of me that was disappointed because so much more could be accomplished. Yes, I was helping people, but it was not at an intimate level.
