Two summers ago, in College Park Maryland, I had an unavoidable encounter with feeling truly invisible. I was staying with a host family for three weeks in coordination with College Park tennis academy. The family’s name was the Ingratis, and they had a boy my age named Alex. Alex had similar interests to me and was always friendly enough when I engaged with him. During the first two weeks of my stay, the other boy Alec was relatively friendly and nice toward me.…
We went to the Philbrook Museum and my best friend Ashley and I went out checking everything out. Somehow we made it down to the basement and found a door with caution tape all over it with signs saying,” DO NOT ENTER’. But of course with us being us, we went inside anyway. Upon entering the room we observe old, dusty, tombs laying around. Then all of a sudden the electric goes out and it goes pitch black.…
“So, how are you handling everything?” Mom questioned, “You know, with the move and all? You seem to spend a lot more time in your room.” “Mom! I’m…
Within the last year or so, my mom has been diagnosed with a leakage in her eyes that is causing her to go blind. Currently she is getting shots in her eyes to help stop the leakage, but it is not working. There have been many obstacles that both of us have faced. With her losing her sight, it has of course become harder for her to work both her jobs. Most of the time I have to read for her because the print is too small, and drive long distances so it doesn’t bother her eyes.…
Signing Off in an Open Letter to the universe in this year of completion. As I bow at the feet of The All, source, spirit, the universe, god and the divine, it is with every inch of my being that I say, “OK, you win. I am to play, dance and sing.” It is from this space of realising that for as devoted, as I have been your servant, your student.…
Everyday I would ask the same thing. "Mom can you please take down that giant painting of a clown, I made it when I was 4."I whined. “But sweetie you made it.” my mom explained. “It's just really creepy and it seems like it's eyes follow me!”…
I wake up instantly blinded. Heat surges through my skin and shoots in my head. Sweat is beading along my face, and I see glistening lights surrounding me. As my vision comes into focus, I now know for sure that this isn’t my bedroom. But where else could I be?…
Growing up, I was blind to a lot of things. I did not see color, race, or gender. As a chold I was oblivious to what was going o around me and the on;y time I heard abut what was on the news was when my parents discussed it and I listened in. I never truely understood the world until i grew older and started seeing things the way most people do. As I grew up my parents realized that they could not shield me from the reality of the world, but only guide me in the right path.…
What does it mean when you hear the term “restorith my soul” used? I guess before we can answer that question, we should ask several other questions first. When you or lost, what would the number one issue of importance be to you?…
Darkness. That's all I could feel; all I could see. Then suddenly, it was light. I had always had these random black-outs as a child. The doctors always told me and my mother not to worry about it.…
The stillness of the air seemed to suck even the sound of my footfalls into the nothingness of a graveyard. Even the trees seemed not to rustle as if they were tense with nerves for what was to come. I could describe it as creepy, but eerie was closer to it. Everything was the same yet different.…
After an eternity of staring at each other he said for us to compose some intricate “Thank You,” cards. Bewildered, we asked “For who” or “Why” but he simply just stood there saying one phrase: “ You need more color!” I tried to devise a introspection to what this may indicate. I thought of crayons, colored pencils, and markers. They were all in the same drawer.…
Sight Suresh D.O.S- 31/07/15 Even though I hadn’t opened my eyes yet, I felt the warm golden gleam of the sunlight pressing against my eyelids. It was time to wake up. I sat up as my bed creaked and took in the beauty of my room. The sunlight gave life to my room.…
Invisible Man Master Class Thing I am a number. No, I’m not an anthropomorphic “6”: Nor am I an list, meticulously stapled to the wall of a kindergarten classroom. I am grades, scores, sizes, costs -- Maybe I am just a walking calculation.…
I hear that from actors regularly. I didn't used to understand the concept of characters not being evil but misunderstood. But the more actors I talk to, the more I understand the mindset behind that. You're never playing a bad character. You can't judge the character.…
