Personal Narrative: One Vs. One

I also play with Hotspurs with the 2003 girls. With the academy, I personally learn more, since it’s more difficult playing with the boys. It’s also more difficult in the sense that when I go for a one v one, some are much bigger or much more skillful. With hotspurs, I’m mainly there for the games and the fitness. With the girls, I'm kind of tall and I have more skill than most of them. In my opinion, it isn’t challenging and I don’t improv on anything. I started playing soccer when I was about three years old, I saw my brother play and I was jealous. I wanted to play and be just like him. It didn't really work out at the beginning but I will expand on that in another chapter. I started in a club called OSU for three years, but I left because there were too many politics going around so it was never fair. …show more content…
I played with boys born in 2002, a couple of 2003’s and like three 2004’s. I later on changed club because it was too hard. After that, I went to Hotspurs for a year with the girls my age and changed once more since I got bullied because they were jealous of how good I was. I stayed in the same club but went to go play with the boys my age and it was a very good year, I learned a lot with the boys. As usual, I ended up changing again when a new league came out named OPDL. I went back to my old team with the girls, still in hotspurs, but was glad to see that some of the friends I had back at OSU and at school were there. It was a rather fun season but here I am now with my two teams I mentioned at the beginning. I also love beach soccer. I play it every time I go to Algeria, where they have the perfect beaches. The first time I played it I was really sore and could barely move my legs the next day. Although, I love playing it because in Algeria there aren't many girls that can play soccer well. So when I go there I show them that some girls like me can actually play

Soon enough I changed to a better club called NJ Stallions and they offer to pay more than half of the tuition for me. My parents and I were so happy to hear this because the tuition to play for the club was 2,500 per year and I only had to pay 700 which included the uniform . While I was in that club doors started to open up for me . For example in that club I got called to go to a national odp camp in Florida which is highly selected players only.…

Accountability, unity, and intentionality are fundamental elements of a successful team. All three of these elements are interdependent on each other, yet are significant on their own. For these elements to work, each member of a team must depend on each other’s contribution, but not rely on one member to do all the work. As well, an intentional goal must be set for all members to unify the same mentality. In my own experience with the Buckeye Twirl baton team, we fail to perform as a team and work as individuals.…

Failure is all around us, for most of us it is a daily occurrence even with little things like failing a quiz or missing a shot in your game. I used to let my failures define me and who I have been especially when I failed to make the Varsity soccer team my junior year. I believed I worked hard and I should have been able to accomplish this goal of mine. I worked hard throughout the summer and tried my hardest to keep up with the other girls so I would make Varsity.…

Two to three times a week I would meet up with the guys from the team to practice shooting and dribbling. I became friends with THEM and was surprised with their support and willingness to help me secure a spot. While working out with them, it was pretty apparent that they were much better than I was and that I had a lot of work to do. As time went on, that slowly changed and I started looking like I BELONGED. At the end of the summer, I went from being a kid who hadn't played soccer in MORE THAN two years to someone who looked like a varsity soccer…

Burr! It really is freezing at 6:45 a.m. on a January morning. I shiver as I stand there in the wet grass waiting for soccer practice to start. “What time is it anyway,” I wonder out loud. Of course, I am super early to practice so I can stretch out the knee I injured last season. At least that’s the reason I give my mom, but in reality, it helps my nerves to be there before anyone else.…

I was four years old when I started playing soccer, and at ten I knew I wanted to play in college. Soccer has been a huge part of my life for twelve years now, growing up I had always played defense and loved it. When eighth grade came around, my travel team needed a goalie, I decided to take one for the team and become our goalie for that season instead of playing my usual position. Playing goalie was never my first choice, but I knew that I had to do it if I wanted to play soccer that season, so I asked my brother to train me to become a goalie for that season. As it turned out, I wasn’t terrible at goalie and my dad suggested I switch from defense to goalie.…

You play a guaranteed 10 games in a season, which in my opinion is nowhere near enough, but that’s how it goes. The season probably felt incredibly short, and you probably skipped some homework or studying for soccer, but I guarantee that it was worth it because grade twelve is the best year to play any high school sport. You are the oldest on the field or court, and you know that it is your responsibility to lead by example. The younger people on your team look up to you even if you don’t think they do, and you have all handled that responsibility with great finesse and…
