Personal Narrative: One Of The Blocks At Lasalle

Improved Essays
My heart was racing while I was standing behind the one of the blocks at Lasalle. My coach said you will do fine but I wasn’t positive about it. I mean this was only my first time swimming at champs. I looked over at the other kids they looked good but I have been practicing all summer. Then, I looked around the pool and see hundreds of people there watching me.

I had butterflies in stomach when I stepped up on the block but I was feeling confident. I can smell the yucky chlorine from the cold pool. You can do this just don’t mess it up to myself. I can hear the muffled cheers through my cap. The official says ”swimmers take your marks” Then, I hear it, the buzz that means go.

I leap forward with all my might and then I am in the cold icy

After passing the qualifying test I moved on to the municipal lifeguard training program; which is a forty hour training course, a CPR course, and a written test. The hardest part of the program is the final swimming test; to qualify for a pool assignment, candidates must be able to swim 440 yards in 7 minutes and 40 seconds, or 6 minutes and 40 seconds to qualify for a beach assignment. Though out this whole process family and friends are making bets on the outcome. But I knew what the outcome was going to be, I was determined, all that training boiled down to that one moment. Walking to Penn Station I let out a sigh of relief, and hopped on the LIRR to go home.…

The Midwest is home to states with rich cultural backgrounds and popular tourist attractions. To take a break from the busy schedule I have as a student, and to avoid writing more essays like this, I went on a vacation to Michigan with my mother and two siblings. We visited South Haven, a pleasant port city on Lake Michigan’s east coast, and Detroit, the famous largest city in Michigan. These areas interest me because there’s plenty to do; there are amazing restaurants, breath-taking scenery, and family-friendly, inexpensive entertainment. South Haven is famed for its relaxed atmosphere and homely feel.…

The " Block " Man One day I was in Arkansas, and had been driving for several hours. I was a bit fatigued and decided to stop and take a nap. I stopped at a local truck stop in Little Rock, and went to sleep. Upon waking, I left my truck to go inside for a meal and to attend to manly duties. As I walked across the parking lot, I noticed three Arab men huddled to together talking, and as I passed, one in particular started yelling out.…

I tremble, walk into the room full of audiences, staring at me. I climb up the ladder to the highest board, the 10-meter board. While everyone looks at me, I look at them, I take a big breath, run at a rhythmic pace until I jump. I do 3 triple flips, and then... SPLASH! I dive perfectly into the cold, deep pool.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

The bed mercilessly taunts my exhausted limbs to return but my determined heart persuades me to brave the trial by water once more. As I dive over the ice cold pool, dread and regret fill every moment until my body finally makes contact. For two, sometimes three, hours the situation will only worsen as I repeatedly raise my arms above my head and pull back as hard as possible. Weeks of this pass by, all for the sake of being able to travel through 100 meters of water a few milliseconds faster. Swimming has been my primary sport since the age of eight.…

The Art of Swimming Lessons Trying a new activity for the first time can be challenging as well as a frightening experience. In our complex that we lived in at the time with many other families and children of the same age as me was an outdoor swimming pool, smack dab in the centre of houses. You couldn’t avoid it, its crystal waters gleaming at your through the fence that surrounded the pool. I enjoyed being in the water; that wasn’t the issue, the problem I faced was the deep, ominous depths of the deep end. I watched as the neighbouring children jumped into the deep end from the pool edge, their shrieks of laughter ran throughout as they splashed into the pool.…
