I deeply inhaled the cool, salty sea air, which blowed in calm gusts. The sun’s rays wrapped around me like a warm blanket, sending happiness and serenity through me. I took deep breaths as I listened to the consistent sound of waves hitting the shore, and rested my tired muscles. It was a perfect day, especially after playing a long, tiring tennis match in Boca Raton, Florida. I lied down on my turquoise beach towel and closed my eyes, simply to relax. “LISA!” my mom shouted, sending shivers through me as I jolted from my small nap. “You should go into the ocean, since that's what we’re all here for.” Immediately I thought of the waves, reaching as high as a skyscraper. Or, at least, that was what I had thought until I felt something wrap around my ankle and drag me deeper into the murky water. I started flailing my arms, and brought myself to the surface, taking short breaths as I struggled to get back to the shore. Except I wasn't going towards the shore; the heavy waves were taking me farther off into the never-ending ocean. “HELP! HELP!” I shouted, attempting to get my mom and dad’s attention. As they started running towards the waters, which were no longer calm, I remembered reading in a survival book to begin swimming across the shore to escape a riptide. Was this even a riptide? Was I going to drown? What were my parents thinking? There wasn't enough time to think. I grabbed my board, bobbing up and down over the waves, and glided my arms through the water; before I knew it, I had escaped the monstrous riptide. My mom and dad ran towards me, panic covering their faces. “I'm okay,” I said, out of breath, as I stepped onto the wet sand and sat down. “You don't need to worry, I'm

Boating into in the Wellfleet Cove in Cape Cod, the first thing I noticed was how the towering sand dunes on the peninsula protected the still, glassy waters within it from wind. The cove was a sanctuary from my anxious life I led at home. My anxiety causes me to have to look at the future as an overwhelming heap of events with a variety of possible outcomes. I remind myself everyday to take things one step at a time so as not to get ahead of myself in a moment. But in the cove, I need not worry about the future because time ceases to exist there.…

It was a gloomy day. I was at our Subdivision’s Local Beach getting ready to swim out to the raft with my four friends. The “raft” as we called it was the bottom end of a Pontoon Boat anchored in the center of Dollar Lake. Occasionally the rain and winds blew it. When my friends arrived we dove into the shallow end of the beach and acquainted our bodies with the cold, late Summer temperature.…

The day seemed to drag on and on, as I waited, counting down the days to California. It was a humid, sunny afternoon down at the Alton pool, where I usually spend most of my summer days working as a lifeguard. Today was very different than most…. And maybe the reason why was because it was my last day of work before I flew off to the big L.A. Most days at the pool the time went by slower than any I have ever known, with the scorching hot sun burning my skin, and little kids yelling at their friends telling each other secrets or what they want to play next.…

Ever since I was little, I have been thrilled by the beauty of nature and the sea that we had in the city where I lived. I would have never thought that nature would harm me in any way. However, due to my constant foolishness and recklessness, I always found myself in deep trouble. While I was trying to enjoy the beauty of nature, I felt like nature was pushing me away and telling me to stop.…
