After pulling into the parking lot of the B&B I purposely dropped all the containers of food in the dirt-gravel parking lot, making sure it was inedible. With that both of my parents erupted, becoming irate with me when they saw that I had spilled our dinners on the ground. But what else could I do? I couldn't just sit back and watch my family eat parts of the Millers for dinner. Well, to be honest, I didn’t really know if there were even parts of the Millers in those containers we had been given. I suppose that the vampires at Rudy’s could have had some actual food on hand which they gave us in accordance with what we had ordered off the fake menus we’d been given. That night I didn't get any sleep fearing that they would come for us. But when the morning had finally arrived and I watched the sun come up hoping that at least the myth of vampires, not being able to go out in sunlight rang true. …show more content…
we had left the B&B and were back on the road for South Carolina. My parents were still cross with me for having to go to bed hungry, but I didn’t care. I was just happy to be leaving West Virginia. That was more than twenty years ago now, and in all this time I have yet to convince anybody about what had happened to me that day, not even my husband. For a brief time after that night my parents even considered putting me in some form of counseling. Believing that what I had said had happened to me that night in West Virginia was a crazy figment of my imagination or even an ongoing hallucination that I needed to receive professional help for. So, I eventually stopped talking about it

I fidgeted uncomfortably on the hard, green plastic seats around the stage and semi-circle shaped pool, resting my arms on the sides of the seats. I grimaced at the sight of bird poop on the armrests and quickly removed my elbows off them, placing them on my lap after checking for scat on my sleeves. It was a long wait before the Blue Horizons show started at Seaworld, San Diego , and all I could do was stare at the oddly shaped plastic waves on the stage, and the rainbow balloon-like “bubbles” on them, and listen to my brother whine about how he was hungry, and beg my dad for more beef jerky. My dad adamantly refused to give my brother any, saying that the show would start soon. I had to watch a tug-of-war with the beef jerky package while…
