ADRENALINE PUMPS through my veins as I stumble through the growth, my boots smashing leaves underneath.

"Alpha," I growl, scrambling to my feet and drawing out a blade. The animal slashes at me, and I dive underneath it, slamming my foot into a hard

A loud buzz startles me, making me drop my pencil on the ground.

Stiles snickers from over next to me, grabbing his phone and checking the notification.

"Young man in the back," Ms. Ferriday calls out sternly, "I'd rather you not have your phone out in class."

"Sorry, my bad!" He waves his phone in the air sheepishly before stuffing it in his jeans once more. "I'm having an emergency with my pet dog!"

She rolls her eyes before turning back to write something down on the board.

By the time class is over, I've already had enough of the hyperactive boy to last me a lifetime. I book it out of the room, searching for my next class when I run into someone.

"Ow, fuck!"

I land flat on my ass, the ankle that I injured the night before twisting under the pressure of the fall. My bag luckily doesn't spill open, but I'm still sitting in the middle of the hall like an

When I think about the old world, only in distant memories and muted daydreams, I mostly think about color. The urban world was dashed in eye-catching colors and neon lights. Nature was slightly more subdued; somewhat monochromatic, yet varied in understated tones of grey, brown, and green. Color is hard to come by, now, with the exception of flame and blood. Rampant fires and firestorms consumed forests and cities long ago, and everyday continue to demolish what was once taken for granted.…

Although my pets’ glare made the men show fear, a group of muscular men with looks that can kill still sent shivers down my spine. After all, a group of men against me, a poor woman, is simply not fair. Plus to that, who do they think they are to come barging into my house in the land of Aeaea with no invitation?…

The dancing of the snow, the running of the wind, the Earth was so quiet, so very, very quiet, ever since the outbreak. The outbreak caused the death of nearly every individual on the face of the world. I was the last living man who was living in the last place, anyone would want to be- Mt. Everest. A human tendency is to run away from problems, no matter how big or small; in my case, I ran away as soon as possible on a helicopter to a place where I know for a fact that I will be safe; this idea was the only reason why I survived the outbreak. I was isolated from the rest of the world, and it was just me, myself, and I.…
