Last September at Murphy High School during homecoming week I ran for homecoming queen. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. All I knew, is that I wanted to win and experience something I’ve never experienced before. I always thought it was so amazing how the queens dressed up with their crowns and sash, walk across the field during halftime of the homecoming game with their dads. Not only, but walk in front of the entire football stadium filled with fans. Taking the pictures would’ve been my favorite part. While Papering for the voting day is was a lot of hard work while working a part time job and going to school a full 8 hours a day. From posters, flyers, candy, and the t shirts; homecoming week was much occupied. However, I didn’t …show more content…
Waiting patiently and anxiously I knew I didn’t win because I heard rumors going around the school before they announced the winner over the intercom. Still having hope waiting on the intercom to announce the winner, sadly to say, I didn’t win. I took the lost and told myself that just because I lost one thing doesn’t mean I can’t win anything else. Finishing off my school year early in late December 2015, I told myself that I would get involved with everything possible at my new college. I decided to start college in January 2016, I didn’t want to waste any time what so ever. After my schedules and scholarships were all done, I had a talk with my advisor, Dr.Perry she said, “Why don’t you want to run for queen or something?” I replied, “Really, like what would I have to do to run?”Dr.Perry told me that I would sign up and start campaigning to be Homecoming Queen of Bishop State Community …show more content…
I had so much on my agenda, hair, nails, and makeup. However, my truck broke down at a neighborhood Walmart. At that point I knew I was doomed. My step dad was still out of town at his job so I couldn’t call him for help. I had no one else but my boyfriend, karon to come to my rescue. Karon tried his best to get my truck to crank, but he couldn’t get it to start. My best friend, charniece, and I caught a ride in Karon’s truck so he could drop us off at her house. Charniece was going to take me to my hair appointment and later in the day I was going to take Karon to work so I could go to the game. Running extremely late, I finally made it to the game. I had butterflies in my because I knew that my night was going to end in another lost after the bad day I had. “Third runner up”, they called. Second runner up, they called. Homecoming King, they called. My knees were trembling, waiting on the last call for homecoming Queen. “Homecoming Queen of Bishop State’s Community College is Jekierea Niles”, they shouted. I was so amazed and full with Joy and excitement. My Family and friends were there to support me and I made them so proud. One of the worst and stressful day had turned into one of the happiest day of my Life. Just because I didn’t win in the past, didn’t stop me from trying again. I didn’t give up and I kept the faith in myself that I could do anything I want to do in life and if I fail to get back up and try it

With a big paper I didn't want to write, a hockey game I couldn’t wait to play in, and a family gathering later that night, all of the things I had to do piled up. I hung around my house after waking up, watching “America's Next Top Model” and making pancakes for breakfast, not too worried about the obligations I had. Two hours came and went and I headed out to my hockey game. I piled up the car with my gear and drove to Nobles to meet the team and play our last game.…
