I’m so hungry! Should I or should I not eat him? I was just lying in my den thinking of food. I was so hungry I wanted something really good to eat! After lying there for a long time, I finally fell asleep. Late in the night I was awakened by loud sounds, it sounded like people. Before I knew what was happening they threw a guy in my den. I could just imagine the sound of the crunching bones, I could taste the flesh. I can see myself eating him. Right when I was about to attack he knelt down and all of the sudden this bright, shiny thing appeared.

While reading David Shield's Reality Hunger I thought my torture would never end. This novel is so overrated and useless. I wouldn't even classify this book as a novel due to it being so gimmicky and Shields is very much a hypocrite in my opinion. David Shields talks about his boredom with the “traditional form of the novel.” I do believe that there are numerous genre-bending novels around, in which the authors of those books wanted to write a form of literature that was creative, nontraditional, and different.…

I just ate my 490 calorie breakfast. I need to stop eating such a big breakfast every morning. I don't eat very big for dinner (if I can get away with it) or lunch. Breakfast is the only meal I look forward to; I crave sweet stuff when I wake up in the morning for some reason, so I eat like a fatass.…

In my high school of over three thousand students, there are two Muslim students; I am one, and my younger sister is the other. Needless to say, deeming us minorities would be a bit of an understatement. My elementary school years deluded me with the superficial allures of assimilation into a primarily white, Christian community. I made constant attempts at blending into my effectively homogenous school, from fabricating stories about Christmas with my family to telling my friends that I had forgotten my lunch at home (thirty days in a row) as opposed to explaining the intricacies of fasting.…

It is not Chipotle, but it will have to do. Everyone has had this thought at the end of the month when the money to spend on takeout has run out and now we are stuck settling with eating in the dining hall that we are forced to pay a ridiculous amount of money for. On the first tour of Baylor’s many dining halls they had put out the superior delicious food, I guess that must be kept in the back now. Back then it seemed as if there was an edible choice for anyone and everyone; including vegans, and the freshman fifteen seemed inevitable. Having been here now for almost a semester the façade of the likelihood of delicious vegan meals had faded long ago.…

The mud cumulates around my hands as I grab the ball to ship it out to my teammate. I throw it as best as I can through the torrential downpour, and immediately feel a shoulder crush my ribs, causing my head to fall and slam in the mud. All of a sudden, the ball hits the ground and whistle blows; we just lost the national championship by one point.…

I never really understood, or even attempted to research, how our body and brain are connected. By now, I have a much more greater understanding of exactly how hard our body and brain work together in order to keep us at the highest functioning, and healthiest level possible. One important aspect of this is called homeostasis, which regulates many body functions to maintain a level of balance. For example, when a person is outside waiting for the bus, and forgot to wear a jacket, homeostatis may kick in and the person will start to shiver. Shivering will help the bodys temperature to return back to its set point.…

The Trip to the Grocery Store I haven’t seen him in weeks or maybe even months, I thought as I glared across the small distance between where I was standing and my dad’s car. With my One Direction CD clutched in my hands, I started to close the distance by walking towards his car. I opened the door and slipped in, and then he started to drive to the grocery store. At the time I was under the illusion that my dad would be even slightly happy to see me, but no.…

From a young age, my parents have always enforced the idea of eating healthy constantly badgering me to eat my vegetables or have a piece of protein with my meals. Although I might not have understood why their reprimanding was important, over the course of these last few weeks in biology I have come to realize that having a sound diet in many ways encompasses what it means to be healthy and live life to its fullest. By actively moderating, recording, and learning about what I have been eating I can now clearly understand that my parents were right to encourage healthy eating in my home. My parent, specifically my mother, was always the one who cooked and influenced my healthy eating at a young age. When looking at my food logs for this…
