Personal Narrative On A Firehouse

“Fire com to Freeport attention all units; general alarm for corner house on Bayview and Smith Street,” this was the sentence that always dragged my dad away. I’ve grown accustomed to hearing my dad’s fire department radio especially since I used to go with him to the firehouse almost every weekend. As I grew up I realized that there are no girl members. I found that extremely odd because I loved the firehouse and I would join the second I turned 18.

He said that’s the company all the girls join if they want to be a part of the fire department. I’ve been going to the firehouse longer than most of the guys have been members.” I would have never thought that they would turn me down especially since they have always encouraged me to do whatever it was that I wanted no matter how impossible it seemed. However, they just dismissed me saying I could never join and if I tried they would find a way to stop me. I was hurt because I was practically a member I knew all about department and responding to calls, all I was missing was the uniform. I never really wanted to join, but it angered me that I wouldn’t be able to I wanted to. I started to lose faith in the fire department especially the members because it is a volunteer department. They need members so there is no reason for them to be turning down the few girls that want to
