Personal Narrative On A Christian Campgrounds

Great Essays
It was a beautiful morning, and I was about to have a big week ahead of me. I was thirteen years old when I embarked on a journey to go camping with my church friends at a place called the Wilds. I have been to a Christian camp before, but I had never been without my parents. It felt substantially odd that I was going to a Christian camp without my family for one whole week. I was tragically confused with several emotions such as excitement, fear of the unknown, and worry. As the bus left the church parking lot, I watched my mom and dad proudly wave good-bye to me as I peered through the bus window. My adventure was beginning, and I suddenly wasn’t sure I was ready. Going to the Wild’s campgrounds was unbelievable. Everyone on …show more content…
Dinner, on the first night was spaghetti and pizza. It was a smorgasbord of all you could eat. They had magnificent desserts such as pound cake and brownies. I was eager to see what would happen once we finished eating. After dinner, we all journeyed to the auditorium / gym. We were placed in teams and was explained the camp’s theme. The three team colors were red, blue, and green. I really wanted our cabin to be on the blue team, but our counselor’s lanyard color showed that we were on the red team. I was a little disappointed at first, but I adjusted to it. The gym inside was wild when the team colors had to run to their seating sections, and the advisors had to find out which team was arranged in an organized, orderly fashion. I do not remember who won, but I do remember that after that, we were given names for our team groups. The red team’s name was the “Redwood Timber Toppers”. I do not remember the green team’s name but I will just call them the “Green Mountain Wood Cutters”, and the blue team’s name was the “Blue Ridge Lumberjacks.” I wanted our name to be “the lumberjacks,” most likely because I thought it was catchy. Our cabin was red, so we were on the Redwood Timber Topper Team, but our cabin was named “The Flume Flingers.” Our cabin name also had a song that we would have to sing during, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We would have to sing it, along with our sister cabin, until the whole diner could hear us. In all honesty, I thought the cabin’s song lyrics were terrible. The song lyrics were, “Here we go, the mighty flume flingers. We will take you down.” After the activity in the gym, I ran with all the teens, including my cabin friends, outside into the field to play a fun ball game. I had to stay on the boy’s side because we were all separated from the girls. We all still stayed with our team color. The game had humungous balls that we had to run around

My religious community has played a profound role on my development as an adult, the three guiding principals of Zoroastrianism: "Good Thoughts, Good Deeds, and Good Words" guide my actions daily. Being part of such a small community while heightening my sense of being has also made me more appreciative and understanding of other cultures & groups. For me understanding others has become a key component in understanding myself. My community has also enabled me to be a better communicator- as often times questions are asked regarding my ethnicity and religion where I can act as a spokesperson for the…

Many people don’t know what they want to be when they “grow up”, as for my mother she didn’t know what type of religion she wanted to be in when she “grew up”. However, she did know the basics that she believed in which was God, the Holy Spirit, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Bible that being said she considered herself Christian and raised me as a Non-Denominational Christian. That was until my senior year of High School when my mom decided she no longer wanted to be part of the Non-Denominational Christian faith and switched over to becoming part of the LDS faith known as the Mormons and flipped my life upside-down with their different views of norms and values. Growing up Non-Denominational Christian is fairly simple faith and to me…

There isn’t anything more breathtaking than going Up North. If you’re not from Michigan you might be wondering, “Where up north?” In Michigan we use “up north” as a term for the upper half of the mitten, I’d say from the top of the thumb up. On October 30th, 2016 I attended Redeemer Lutheran church. I arrived there ten minutes early and picked a pew towards the back and started to take notes. The mass started around eight o’clock am and lasted approximately an hour. The service itself was similar to a Roman Catholic mass that I am use to. I was surprised that they were so similar because my thought process was since they are completely different religions than they must have completely different mass styles.…

One of my most notable and memorable experiences in nature occurred this past summer when I went up to a nature camp in Challenge, California. It was a Young Life Christian summer camp that lasted for a week in the woods of northern California. To help us become one with nature and to feel closer to God, our leaders had us turn in our phones on the bus ride up and did not give them back until about an hour into our trip home. This renunciation of my phone placed me in a form of isolation that was reminiscent to the common theme of solitude that author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry experienced and discussed in his memoir, Wind, Sand and Stars. I had never gone without my phone for an extended period of time before this trip so I found my experience…
