Personal Narrative: No Limits Kubloms

I was a member of a car club called No Limits Kustoms (NLK), and we would focus our efforts on Making Christmas better for impoverished children by using our love of cars. One of the ways we helped was by donating our time and effort by volunteering at the malls Salvation Army Angel Tree program. We would alter public space in the center of the mall by setting up tables next to a huge Christmas tree. The table would have these angel name hangers with children’s names on them. When people came up to the our tables we would ask them if they wanted to choose a child or if they wanted us to. After selection the angel hanger with a child's name we proceeded to write now the person’s name and give them a copy of the angel which had the child’s sizes and what they asked Santa for. The person would then proceed to the Christmas tree and hang the angel on it. The year that our group helped we ended up handing all of the angel hangers out. …show more content…
We would think of ways to make our car show so interesting that everyone would want to visit or participate. Some of the different events at the car shows were "Best in show", "Car under construction", "Best Bike", “Best Paint". The funds we earned would then go towards making 3-5 families Christmas's one to remember. On the day of the Christmas deliveries to the family’s each member would cook a homemade dish for each family. So not only were they getting gifts from Santa (who made the deliveries with us) but also a turkey dinner with

My elementary school,Creek View Elementary, hosts a fundraiser called “ The Basket Raffle”. Surprisingly, I remember how lively and successful the events were every year. Each class was assigned a theme that would help guide families with knowing exactly what items to donate in order to create the classes’ basket. The PTA would assemble all the items from each class in gigantic gift baskets for the highly anticipated raffle. Parents and students that desired to win the baskets had to buy tickets to put in the smaller baskets designated for choosing the winners.…

My group, consisting of Deja Calvin, Jasmine Begley, Raphael Genato, Marina Thacker, Courtney Carr, Ralph Tamakloe, and Glory Chuma, plans to organize a clothes drive through the school. The clothes we collect will go to a homeless shelter for use during the winter months. The purpose of the drive is to directly help the homeless population in Virginia Beach when help is most needed. Before the idea was formed, I knew that Goodwill takes donations for the less fortunate. Also, in our school National Honor Society has a can food drive early in the school year, and NJROTC holds a toy drive near Christmas.…

For me I felt that I was giving more than a gift, but I was also giving joy. Taking into account that both children are six years old meant that I had to explore the interest of children that age. Thankfully due to the Angel tree program I was provided with a list of the children's wants and needs, and was most intrigued in Ayden ’s request for a soccer ball. I personally am apart of the soccer team at school and was more than willing to give a gift for someone with similar interests.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

When I was in preschool, I had the opportunity to be a part of WACO shopping. Woodfield Area Children’s Organization (WACO) is a volunteer-nonprofit organization and each year around Christmas time, they travel to local Walmarts and host shopping events for preschoolers in low-income areas and provide each child with eighty dollars to spend. Two teenagers were assigned to push me around in the shopping cart while looking for the objects my family filled out in the Christmas list. I remember this so clearly because it was such an exhilarating event for me. I remember the teenagers being so helpful and making this shopping trip joyful for me as well as for themselves.…

Most families have holiday traditions and ours was no different. Our most treasured one was going to Grandma and Grandpa Dietzler’s for a family Christmas feast of roast duck, glazed ham and all the related goodies that left us painfully plumped. Afterwards there was the much anticipated gift opening. Our gifts from Grandma and Grandpa were special because, during the WWII years, the manufacturing of toys was a low priority and they were often unavailable. But, since grandpa was a carpenter by trade, he had ample raw wood materials.…
