After many years working as a low-skilled laborer in America, I asked “what will be your plans after retirement?” It was not surprising when they told me their plans to return back to China/HK. This was similar to the topics discussed in class about return migration/circular migration. My parents solely came to America for a better economic opportunity and living condition for their children. They were deeply rooted in their own culture, and they were not able to assimilate in America due to their ongoing battle with language. Ordering food, talking to a physician, communicating with various companies on payment options, and many other challenges are all challenges that they face every day.
