Personal Narrative: Native American Indians

In the middle of autumn I decided to take a walk in the woods behind my house. I wandered and wandered and, soon enough, I was hopelessly displaced. I saw this huge pond about 70 yards in front of me. I had never seen it before; so I decided to go investigate. When I got up to the pond I realized there was a whole Native American civilization that had once lived here. There were 25 huts, spread out on the banks of the pond, and piles of wood, fire dig outs, broken pottery and arrowheads scattered all over the ground. Besides the broken pottery and arrowheads, which was a shame because they were beautiful, the little village looks like the people had just gotten up and left. One of the hut doors was cracked open so I decided to go in. The hut …show more content…
On the fourth day, after Maka and I were done with the gathering, she went to bathe in the pond, and I went to explore. I needed to find a way to get back into the chief's hut and get home. By this time my parents and friends were probably worried sick about me and where I had disappeared to. I was walking on the outskirts of the village when I saw the chief and Alawa leave their hut and walk towards the center of the village. I knew this was my time to sneak into their hut and get home. I was almost had gotten to the door of the hut when mother of the tribe called me over to help her with her weaving. I almost cried because I felt like I was never going to get home. Once I was there for a week I gave up on the fact of going home and just integrated myself in their culture. I took a new name of Chepi and, after a few months, I married to the chief”s son, Hotah, because Alawa took a liking to …show more content…
I ran upstairs and laid on my bed thinking of the life I left back with the tribe and how Hotah was going to feel. The next morning when I woke up I ran back into the woods and tried to get back to my life with the tribe. I opened the lid to the bowl in the chief's hut and felt the cold gust of wind. When I walked out of the hut I was highly disappointed there was no one there. Time here must move faster than I expected, I was hoping it was only a few months had gone by in the time I was home. I walked around trying to find out how long it had been since I left. I walked around and couldn't find anything that told me how long I was gone but just that everyone I had loved was long gone and I was never going to get my old life back. I sat by the pond and cried and cried. After I had gotten that out of my system I gathered up all the pots, arrowheads, and anything else with value and buried them in the special plot where we buried things in time of attack. If I couldn't get my old family back I wasn't going to let anything happen to their things. After I was done I took one last look at the village looking for a sign to my old life. Not finding one I walked back to the chief's hut and went back to

My ethnicity as an indigenous person has had a heavy influence on all aspects of my life. My upbringing, beliefs, and interests stem directly from my ethnicity. As a result, the area of study that I am most drawn to is ethnic studies as ethnicity affects all aspects of a person’s life. My experience as a Native American woman has made me aware of the complexity and value of my own ethnicity, as well as the ethnicities of others. I would also be interested in concentrating my studies in cultural anthropology.…

What do you make of the irony that women were often treated quite well in Indigenous traditions and yet, today, Native American women are the group of women that experience the highest incidence of domestic violence? My reaction: It upsets me to think about the violence that women are experiencing throughout all cultures. For Native American women to be experiencing the highest domestic violence I feel at fault. If it weren 't for colonization and the “whites” invading the Native American territory the concept of women being less than men would never have been introduced to the Native American culture.…

What I think about the book it is well organized and each chapter is explaning a subject during all the book Snyder is using Primary and Secondary sources she explains from the beginning of American Natives to the End of Native American as we can see in the first chapter she was able to explain how the Natives would be and act. A part of a book that empressed me was that before the Natives would not care in the race for slaves they would never think that white would be superior than blacks or indians. For them everyone was the same everyone had an was in the verge to be a slave it all depend more on the age than the skin color it depend more on the age than their origin (Africa or Europe), but it was until the Spanish came it was until the…

The Key to Survival In the novel, Parable of the Sower, by Octavia Butler, the powerful perk of being educated is constantly demonstrated as the story progresses. Not only does it allow you to know what to do, eat, build, drink, and collect, but it also allows one who has general knowledge to be protected as a valuable asset for those who are curious and need educated guidance. Butler makes this very evident in the case of Keith. Due to his knowledge of reading and writing, he is let alone at first by the gangs.…

Thinking about this made me miss home even more and I pushed the thought out of my mind. I reached my resting place for the night and sighed as I sat down. I closed my eyes and wished yet again I was back at home, in warm familiar surroundings, but to my disappointment when I opened them again I was still in the freezing, damp trench. The cold reminded me of the winters we had back home, the temperature would often drop below freezing, sometimes snow would fall and I would spend hours playing outside, I loved the look of the countryside during those times. It was if a blanket had…
