Leadership is a quality I believe I excel in. I migrated to Hawaii in July of 2011, and typically, like most immigrants, I behaved in a reserved manner. I repeatedly told myself throughout the whole school year, “You don’t know how to do that. Don’t join, you might just embarrass yourself.” Later in middle school, a teacher of mine suggested that I run for class president. I won. It was a monumental milestone for me as I only recently moved from another country, and it was a great honor and privilege to serve and lead my classmates. I ran again my seventh-grade year, won, and my eighth-grade year, I became the student government president. My freshman and sophomore years of high school, I again ran for class president and won. My skills as a leader are attributed to student council and the advisors I have had throughout the last five years. Partaking in the student council organization has allowed for personal and leadership growth, and is comprised of plentiful downfalls and successes. But I believe that it requires missteps and prosperity to learn and grow as a leader. In terms of strength, my skills in proper and adequate delegation tasks have contributed to the successes of my class. However, delegating and simply telling others what to do is not leadership, it is the act of collaborating with one another to execute an event or achieve the goal. Ultimately, I believe that it is my ability to uplift and empower others as my greatest asset. Acting
