Stumbling upon this quote freshman year, and since then, the quote has deeply ingrained itself in my brain-- the significant effects of the quote to my life unforeseen at the time. Ayn Rand, a Russian novelist, once stated, “The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.” As my eyes brushed upon every word, it resonated with me. The quote by the novelist are words I hold with the highest of regards, and undoubtedly, I now apply it to everyday life, notably in decision making. It resonated with me, and the reason, attributed to the ability of the words to spur feelings of determination and inspiration to strive for greatness. Leadership is a quality I believe I excel in. I migrated to Hawaii in July of 2011, and typically, like most immigrants, I behaved in a reserved manner. I repeatedly told myself throughout the whole school year, “You don’t know how to do that. Don’t join, you might just embarrass yourself.” Later in middle school, a teacher of mine suggested that I run for class president. I won. It was a monumental milestone for me as I only recently moved from another country, and it was a great honor and privilege to serve and lead my classmates. I ran again my seventh-grade year, won, and my eighth-grade year, I became the student government president. My freshman and sophomore years of high school, I again ran for class president and won. But I believe that it requires missteps and prosperity to learn and grow as a leader. In terms of strength, my skills in proper and adequate delegation tasks have contributed to the successes of my class. However, delegating and simply telling others what to do is not leadership, it is the act of collaborating with one another to execute an event or achieve the goal. Ultimately, I believe that it is my ability to uplift and empower others as my greatest asset. Acting

In this book the government struck fear into the hearts of it's loyal citizens by harsh punishment for miniscule crimes an example of this is the saint of the pyre he was burned at the stake for a crime he committed and all he done was say the unspeakable word “they had torn out the tongue of the transgressor so that they could speak no longer”(Rand,50). The government wanted to let the people know that they were in control of every minute of their dull predetermined lives. And to do this they had to be sure that every person in their community was afraid of the consequences if they were to break a law or be different than everyone else. The government took out all leisure time from the people of the community because even as simple as it…

A critical part of life and becoming successful is overcoming the many obstacles and adversity that one will face on the path to greatness. Overcoming adversity is crucial; but an equally important aspect to obtaining success is having the mindset to accomplish anything. Ayn Rand, an accomplished philosopher and novelist, epitomizes said mindset with her famous quote, “The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”…

Ayn Rand: Journal Entry 1 “I did not start by trying to describe the folks next door-but by inventing people who did things the folks next door would never do. Define Me “The question isn’t who is going to help me, but who is going to stop me” (Ayn Rand). This quote has been the philosophy by which I live my life. However, it was not until middle school, and my life was in a constant state of flux, that I finally heard it. Discovering Ayn Rand was the start of much more than I can express and the beginning of an obsession with knowledge and discovery; her works mean the world to me, and I find that they define me quite often, but not as much as the events that lead to my own development of this philosophy, only lacking the eloquence she gave it.…

LEARNING TO LEAD I view a leader as someone who is followed and respected by others, and is a role model that others follow. I imagine many people are eager to lead, or be followed, in a manner similar to how copying is a form of flattery. When I was young my parents always wanted me to become involved in as many activities as possible, yet I always led my parents into disappointment and looks of melancholy as I rejected the task of responsibility. It was something I lacked, and I subconsciously drilled this fact into me.…
