Mysterious, Poems, Each Other's Business

When I entered Middle School; which was in the middle of my seventh-grade year. For the first time ever, I was able to wear "normal clothes" instead of a grey and maroon uniform. I met people that were growing up differently than I. Also, I met my first American Muslim friend. Her name is Sally. She wore long sleeves all the time, even during Phys. Ed. Class. When Eboo Patel from "We Are Each Other's Business," speaks of his experience in school; when encountering a situation that involved the religious belief of his friend. Eboo Patel did not know what to do. I had encountered similar events with Sally. She and I had classes together called "A" Day (2008 roughly when Block Scheduling started.) and

The short story, “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love” by Raymond Carver, invalidates the struggles and the lives of women, especially those that have dealt with trauma and abuse. The lack of empathy for Terri, the lack of recognition of abusive relationships do nothing to prevent or provide education on domestic violence, and the absence of support marginalize women. Terri, Mel’s second wife, was in two consecutive abusive relationships. She had lived with Ed, a man that “loved her so much he tried to kill her.”…

I woke up feeling hollow inside. Something wasn’t right. Perhaps it was the bleach undertone in the air or maybe the propofol hadn’t quite worn off. In the seventh grade, I faced a large transition in life. The previous year I had experienced middle school for the first time, but I would make that entrance again. I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

The wheelbarrow does not offer the same imagery with the line of “wide eye tamed with dirt” as the “peacock feather does”. A wheelbarrow is neither wild nor tamed, but a peacock is a free animal, and one that is not typically domesticated or tamed.…

My interpretation of love is quite different in comparisons to others. Well, at least, it feels that way. I don’t believe love was predetermined by a supreme being nor was it predestined by souls who were once intertwined in their past lives. As bleak as it sounds, love is induced by a chemical combination of sex hormones, dopamine, adrenaline, oxytocin, serotonin, and vasopressin. However, love still maintains its magically powerful presence through its ability to transform the world in a positive place and ultimately, it’s what makes humanity survive.…
