Personal Narrative: My Writing

Most kids remember the sounds of rain, or thunder vividly because they are loud. I remember scratching. Rhythmic, repetitive, and right in front of me. The scratching of my blue ballpoint pen against paper. Whenever I'd do well in school, my mother would ask me what I wanted as a reward, even though she already knew. As we shuffled toward her car, I'd pretend to think about it. Maybe I'd surprise her and tell her I wanted toys, or candy like a normal kid. But I didn't. I wanted books, and paper. But even that wasn't my real reward, it was the feeling I got when I wrote, or read what I one day aspired to be. That same feeling drew me to Karen DePaul's classroom door. Journalism One. Freshman year. Wide eyes, and eager to please. I didn’t know all that much about journalism, but the description said it included writing, so I signed up. …show more content…
I remember feeling small, both in stature, and in experience. Everyone else in my class was at least a sophomore, and as it was my school’s first year open, they’d all bared some kind of connection to each other. You’ll learn how to write editorials, features, and most importantly how to show not tell.” Karen DePaul isn’t a very big woman, but she’s commanding. I think that’s the first thing I noticed, the first thing I remember about her. She was authoritative. I didn’t think I’d end up spending so much time in the Journalism room. I didn’t think I’d be Academics Editor. And I had no idea, I’d be Copy Editor. Journalism has taught me how to speak, how to listen, and how to tell stories. Before I entered room E-121 I didn’t realize that everyone has a story to tell if you’re just patient enough to

I am greatly inspired by the Securities and Exchange Commission’s goal to protect investors but also enforce their accountability to conduct investments in a fair and orderly manner. It allows for a fair process in which investors are subject to an impartial analysis and decision process of their cases. It creates an atmosphere of transparency, understanding, trust, and respect between staff, citizens, and the accused. Similar to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s goal, my goal as a person and aspiring attorney is to be helpful, fair, respectful, objective, and observant. I am eager to gain an understanding of our rapidly changing world and its relationship to law and the economy.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

Follis hosted the event on March 9, 2016, for her students to hear a journalist’s journey to where they are today. Throughout his speech, McCray mainly focused on journalism through a more relaxed, nontraditional approach.…

Intimate journalism, a style of writing that precisely describes and represents an item, person, or place, is quite easy to start learning; however, it does not stop there. To write a great true story, the writer does not only need to build the appearance of the object, but also needs to give his story bones and fleshes. By bones and fleshes, I mean plots and dialogues. Like a person not only needs skins, but also requires the most crucial fleshes and bones. A truly great real story requires good descriptions of physical details, real-life dialogues, and a well-planned plot.…

While I love using my camera, I was not sure what to anticipate I would get from my work. However, when I began interviewing and shooting with the first person I worked with, her coworker, Hannah Danforth, informed me that she was a photojournalist herself. It was serendipitous because she answered a question I did not know I even had: can photography in journalism be very creative and fun? She was happy to be interviewed a couple weeks later, and she shared with me extremely useful information. With 14 years of photojournalism under her belt, I asked her what the most important thing to do as a photojournalist is.…
