Personal Narrative: My Writing Style

For many years, I have found myself turning to poetry as a relief from existing during times where being alive just didn’t help the choices I’d make. It became a writing style; a lifestyle. For 15 years I have taught myself the fundamentals of what there is to know when it comes to poetry and the type of rhythms there are.
The fascination that I found through different techniques inspired me to create my own work lengthy enough to perform publicly. Through these performances I have also sampled other styles by adding melancholy themes or comedic jokes in the mix to relieve the tension. My style could be considered a jack of all trades, a mix of all colors, but I mostly enjoy focusing on the poetic release in my work. There is something about a small rhyme that tastes exceptional to the tongue when rehearsing the soft words.

I've seen many poets and authors perform their works, and after observing their performances I believe it's safe to say that nobody will ever have one strict style. Everyone has a style, yes, but it's always a mix of other things. I have often caught myself rhyming unintentionally on a paper or in conversation. This has led me to notice that my writing style does not only influence my performances at a show but my day-to-day routine as

It is official, I have taken my first poetry class, in a way I wanted to explore my poetic side while also learning new techniques and elements that I can take to the future classes I will teach. Many times, I have heard that poetry is a joke or that it is dead thanks to music, but I strongly disagree. Poem’s are meant to be this lovely little pieces that are fresh, healthy, and unique. This is something I have learned as this semester progressed. Some of my poem have had some blandness due to being cliché or lack of language.…

For plays that lack the component of physical music, they can use a heightening in dialogue to add a sense of style that may be perceived as musical to the audience. A colloquial dialogue, which is a form of conversation or informal interactions would be a good example of a stylish style of language. For example, in Joe Turner's Come and Gone an audience would pay less attention to the actual language used in the play, and pay closer attention to its style where it was perceived to be stylish and…

I have read poetry before, but it is not my favorite style to read. One of my favorite poems from my past reading would be “I Hear America Singing” by Walt Whitman. I read this poem back years ago and it has stuck with me ever since the first time I read it. My meaning would be how each of us sing a different song as we each live a different life. This poem relates to how each person is different, yet we all have one life to live no matter what profession we choose (Albrecht, 2010).…

My talent is creating, and my form of creating is writing. Writing is a thing I've been doing since I was in the seventh grade. I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

Unless I have a very strict and short deadline, my writing process begins with thinking and reading about the topic or subject matter of my paper. I don’t do a structured free writing or idea mapping session, but rather just read a bit to get familiar with the subject matter and to get my brain thinking about the subject. Once I am ready to begin writing. I start with the thesis statement is on the topic, is formatted correctly, and matches the purpose of the essay.…

My writing process usually involves me prewriting, planning, drafting and then editing. I often try to revise the paper while I’m writing it, which often seems to create more problems as I stop my thought process on what I was writing and focus on something else. While this has slowed me down, it has never stopped me from finishing something. I have always had an easy time writing in an environment where I don’t have any tight restrictions and can write freely about ideas for characters, stories, and worlds. I usually have trouble coming up with the right words when I’m required to write about very specific topics or ideas.…

I learned that all the prewriting is not the same there are different formats of writing. I haven't learned which essay writing best fits me. I believe that the one that fits me the most is the free writing because I can just write down anything and continue without stopping. I can write to whatever comes to mind and even though it doesn't make any sense I still write it down I feel that most of my best writing comes from free style writing. I can only do my best when I feel that I am able to more work under pressure and that I can relieve a lot of my stress by writing.…

Due to all the reading I have done writing to me is almost as natural as talking. Also, I am quite good at knowing how to divide writing to make it less work. Some writers I have come to know write until they can't write anymore and that's when the stop, wearing themselves out in the process. As I've gotten older in middle school I can see how much iv changed over the years and how my work has gotten better. At the beginning of the year, I didn't understand the writing techniques. I've always struggled with my writing and organizer and always been behind, but now I understand my topics and what I'm supposed to be writing. One of my greatest strengths is being able to create a story out of anything, I also took it in my hands to make sure all my questions are answered to understand what I'm writing about. Yet, there are also parts I need to improve my grammar and word choice.…

Writing has never been one of my strongest skills nor my favorite. Even though I enjoy reading another person’s writing the thought of someone else reading mine just sends chills down my spine. I wouldn’t consider myself a decent writer whatsoever. This defiantly gets in the way of how I feel about writing at times, because it makes me insecure of what others are going to think after they finish reading my essay. When I signed up for ENGL 1301 I was quick to assume the course was just going to consist of reading a lot of material and taking quizzes that covered the readings.…

Poetry has been a part of my life from a very young age. I always enjoyed writing poetry at home in journals, filling the pages with my thoughts and feelings, which became beautiful through elegant words and lyrical phrases. Poetry was a space for me to turn anything I could not express into something people would not only listen to, but also enjoy. Poetry was a way for me to feel like I could tell the world about myself without burdening them with actually listening to me talk about myself; even as a young girl I felt that my story was not worthy of being told organically, it had to be something creative and unique to be worthy. Despite writing poetry, I did not enjoy reading poetry for the most part, however that changed when I came across slam and spoken word.…
