Decent Essays
My writing skills throughout high school have progressively gotten better. During my freshman year, I hated writing papers, because my writing skills were pitiful. The more I wrote, throughout those four years, the better my papers became. From freshman year to now, I have improved my grammar, flow, and sentence structure. When I was a freshman it would take me hours to write a two-page paper, but now I know that I can write a lengthy paper and my grammar will stay sufficient throughout the entire essay. My Writing skills throughout high school have progressively gotten better. When I used to write papers, they were choppy, unorganized, and incorrect. When I write papers now, they correctly flow, they are extremely organized,

I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

Since starting this class I have noticed how much I write. I journal at least once a week, I’ve had assignments of all kinds that I’ve had papers for, and I spend a great deal of my time on my phone answering messages. I tried my best to get an A in this class, even though I got sick often, and my attendance was poor on the worst days. I tried to participate even when I wasn’t there; for example, I was messaging Garrett argument ideas through Facebook while I as in bed sick. This was one of my favorite classes this semester.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

Throughout my educational career standardized testing has been a major part in determining whether or not you can proceed to the next grade or whether you have to take the class again. A Lot of kids that were my age when I had to take the STAAR test usually dreaded having to take a standardized test like the STAAR English II exam. I was no different, I was one of those kids who just wanted to get this test done with and move one. For a while this philosophy of mine worked, however that all would change when I ended up failing the English II STAAR test during my sophomore year of high school. Thus leading to a change in how I would view standardized testing and how my writing composition skills would eventually improve and affect my life.…

Things that I’ve improved on over the last few years are my spelling, sentences, and just going into more detail. These are all the ideas that I think I’ve improved the most throughout my high school career. The most important aspect of my writing I think I’ve changed for the better is my spelling. When I was a child I always though about business. I wanted to know how things worked, how money worked. My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

Who doesn’t struggle with writing? I know I always have struggled with writing, for the longest time I didn’t even really understand the differences in sentences, and it is something that’s still confuses me a little bit. To be completely honest I sometimes procrastinate longer than I should when it comes to writing, so I don’t always review the finished product the way I should. I’m happy with my writing skills but I obviously do see a need for improvement. I could improve greatly on procrastination and sentence structures. I certainly will strive to keep focused on the topic and to write as if it comes naturally to me so that I can write papers without worrying about too many things. In the end, I feel I am a hair above average when it comes to writing about topics because I think in a very mature way and it feels like a blessing in this age we live in. I hate to compare myself to others because as people we are all incredibly different from one another…
