My Writing Process: A Personal Reflection Of My Essay

My Writing Process:
When I received the prompt for our first essay I glanced at it, and tried to understand the main point, the thing we were being asked to write about. As you many others writing does not come naturally to me, so I knew that I would have to have read the prompt several times before I even considered beginning on the rough draft for my first essay. After reading the prompt in class I started to highlight phrases, questions, and anything that stood out to me. Mean while all these thoughts were running through my mind, at the same time I was thinking of way to put all those ideas that were in my head on actual paper. Ideas that make sense in my mind but always have a hard time getting them down. After understanding the prompt

I am not going to lie; I did wait to the last couple days to really get started on the bulk work of my essay. Coming off English 52, I thought to my self that writing would come easy to me since I had great success at writing essays in that class, but I was wrong. After waiting to the last minute to work on my essay I quickly realized that I was to late to procrastinate even further. So I am planning on working ahead of myself, and really focus on my time management when it comes to writing essays. Knowing now what I realized at this point, I would have started working on a rough draft/outline right away, even if it meant to get started the he night I got the prompt to my essay, which is something I plan on doing for my second …show more content…
Of course I will have to “just write” at an earlier stage in my writing process so that I can get things done in a timely manner, and not have to turn-in a rushed paper. At the time I was turning in my essay I realized of other things I wanted to include, but at the same time I knew that I did not have the time to edit again.
What I Needed:
The prompt was not the problem; I think the problem was my procrastination. I should have gone to the success center to get more ideas as to how to manage my time a lot better. Maybe then I would get more motivation to get started sooner. I am not going to sit here, and say that the prompt or my professor had anything to do with how I feel about my “rushed” essay. I had all the information, and resources to complete my essay in a timely manner, but I failed to get started on time. I could say I needed more time to write my essay, but I am not going

Before I came to De Anza, I was lacking in many things. For example, I switch in between persons in the same paragraph when I was talking about a character. I would add in my opinions like why I think Hamlet wanted to kill his family on an analysis paper, and my sentence structures were all over the place. I would also use the same words over and over again making my essay dull and boring than it already is. I started to feel degraded because I was receiving low scores on my essays.…

I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

The way I move through my own writing process is simple. I always start with research on a specific topic that an instructor gives me. I’m that kind of person that loves to highlight the important details of someone else’s information so I can admire her or his work in my papers. Then after finding the right amount of work to compose my own paper I start out with a title page.…

Unless I have a very strict and short deadline, my writing process begins with thinking and reading about the topic or subject matter of my paper. I don’t do a structured free writing or idea mapping session, but rather just read a bit to get familiar with the subject matter and to get my brain thinking about the subject. Once I am ready to begin writing. I start with the thesis statement is on the topic, is formatted correctly, and matches the purpose of the essay.…

This English 101 class has helped me in variety of ways in gaining and shaping skills in writing. I learned how do compose several types of essays including: professional, informal, casual, cause and effect, and argumentative and was given the format for writing these. Every week, the class was given one of these types of essay to write and throughout the class periods, I would start and finish them. I saw that if I outline these essays with key points of my topic before I officially being writing the first draft, an essay is not difficult to come up with. I would only have to include transitions, which I also learned, and maybe a few more sentences to make my ideas connect properly and flow smoothly.…

My mind feels like a 1000 piece puzzle missing a piece. I can’t simply find the right words to say to start this paper. The most crucial step of my writing processes is letting my mind go wild and my fingers move freely. Whenever I write anything, I always let myself write whatever is on my mind at that exact second. Even if it doesn’t make 100% sense or isn’t exactly on topic, I’ll type it out. When I was writing my essay, I didn’t stop to fix anything until the very end. When I finished writing, I looked for mistakes.…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…

The most strenuous part of the procedure was the preparation because I was never organized when writing my essays some sentences where too short others where too long and some did not belong where I had placed them. It was always a hassle getting everything organized especially when it came to long essays such as book reports. I remember the weeks leading up to the due date of my essays would be terrifying I would always try to ignore it but it was a daunting thought in the back of my head.…
