Personal Narrative: My Writing Process

Improved Essays
My own writing process, and how its benefits me.
Although my major is not an English major or yet to become a preeminent writer, I have learned to appreciate the peaceful nature of writing. Aside from performing well on my homework in other classes, writing an essay for my English class was the hardest and most intriguing experience for me. After taking two semester of English courses, it helped me to change my conception about writing and become a confident writer. Now I believe writing essay or article not only should explain your views in words but also resonate thoughts from your heart with reader. As Meg Rosoff said, “Your writing voice is the deepest possible reflection of who you are. The job of your voice is not to seduce or flatter

My main goal of this essay was not to implement ideas what other writers already explored, but to discover strategies to express my own effectively. The introduction and conclusion of this essay were where I think I demonstrated this new ability most. Along with introducing my essay with background story, I have laid out plans of actions for readers to follow up easily. In addition to that, I have reconnected my thesis idea, background story in the conclusion, and demonstrated a purpose for telling the massage. This strategy of being coherent to the reader during the essays was something that I had never tried …show more content…
Along with being able to express myself concisely, I also focused on backing up thesis with evidences, demonstrated shocking statistics to back up those ideas. At the end, I tried to analyze the evidences, and the statistics to persuade readers. In addition to that, I have also learn highly valuable skills to help my papers to stand stronger. For example, I used quotation to articulate what experts have already said, and APA for formats to direct readers to their sources. Even though, I didn’t know much about APA formatting prior to my attendance to Ms. Ousies class, after taking her course I have been able to learn how to use APA formatting effectively and support my idea strong. However, one of the hardest thing I have experienced on writing these three essay was that organizing ideas in orderly fashion, and transitioning between ideas, because often times I found out that the previous argument was either off track or requires little more tweaks to be able to transition to the next paragraph. Another thing I am proud of throughout all my papers is how much more I evaluated the suggestions given to me by my peers and instructor during this class. This is an area that I had never really taken advantage of before. Without this I do not think I would have understood academic writing as well as I now do. Seeing

Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

My Writing Ritual Writing rituals differ from person to person and are rarely ever the same. Some may involve eating a certain food, being in a certain room of a house, or sitting in a certain chair. There may be an individual who can only write when tied upside-down from the ceiling. Nevertheless, the two following aspects of a common writing ritual are nearly essential for success in any type of writing.…

Developing and defending your ideas is the key aspect of essay writing and to know how to perform that is a useful credential towards one's writing. I write from the heart and I don't make use of flowery words or phrases to fill up space. My stories are rounded, cohesive, and targeted at my client’s specific audience. As I detest the use of spinning software, each article is researched and written by me, according to my client’s specifications. As for keywords, I'm more than proficient in their use, while I am also able to add links where the client thinks it necessary.…

The image that best describes my writing style would be the pyramid. To me a pyramid is a structure that represents order and an attention to detail. The picture of the pyramid is structured in levels, which can be viewed as steps to writing an essay or research paper. The top of the pyramid could be viewed as selecting the topic for what I am writing. The second level is the research phase and the writing of the outline.…

The completion of three rough drafts and three final drafts, along with the help and constructive criticism of my instructors, are what helped me find my weakness in writing essays. The solution to my weakness is to learn to create complete, specific, and fully developed thesis statements. One can only achieve this through the continual practice of writing essays and executing each skill one at a time. My room for improvement is infinite. I will not stop trying to better myself until I have reached my full potential of writing a near perfect essay with a correctly formulated thesis…

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
