Personal Narrative: My Work Experience At Sobeys

Decent Essays
My past work experience has been at Sobeys, where I could experience a lot of women’s leadership. I worked from October 2013 to June 2015; I began working there since it opened to until I resigned, because I had to move to Kingston. In our Sobeys, there were more female department managers than male managers; my department manager was female as well. If I gained knowledge of what woman could do by reading about “The Famous Five” before, this time, I gained knowledge by experiencing different female leaderships. I’ve experienced both poor and great leaderships. One manager did not put her health as her priority, so she was often late. Another manager was very organized and caring both to her department and the workers. I believe that to be a

In our society women are not often seen as leaders. Men are the ones who are in power in our government and that stereotypical norm is what the media shoves in society’s face constantly. When we see a women taking charge and being an effective leader, it has to be attributed to something that is wrong with them because women are not seen as leaders naturally. Men who are bossy are seen as powerful and positively controlling.…

Susan Colantuono is a leadership experts that focused her speech on why there are many women at the mid management level but very few women at the top management level. She advises there are three elements to leadership and that the first is personal greatness but it is not the most important. The speaker was not very engaging to me but she did have a valid point. Her technique of a flow chart to show women why they haven’t made it to CEO level made me tune out a bit. I selected this speech because it was directed towards women and to make sure they have better success in the business world.…

Clarence, I agree with you completely that older generations follow the motto “a hard day’s work for an honest day’s pay”. I work with a few older employees and they work 5x harder than some of the younger employees I work with. I also received a 35 on my EI test which I was not surprised of either. I have a very high work ethic and have very little time for play in my job. I do need to learn to put myself in others shoes; sometimes this is very hard for me to do.…

I shall always remember my first year working at Turkey Hill Ranch. I have always possessed an enduring fondness of the lovely church camp over all the years I’ve spent there as a camper, but I never imagined that its unique nature and pleasant atmosphere would impart such invaluable wisdom. This quiet and seemingly insignificant breadth of woods and field, tucked away amongst the encompassing depths of central Missouri, gave me an abundance of clarity on the exceeding importance of humility, service to others, and a bit of hard work in the composition of effective stewardship. Before becoming a part of the Summer staff at Turkey Hill, I was often impressed at the smooth and continuous operation of the camp week after week, being that it was…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

All of my life, I have heard that women are not equal in America. Women throughout history have been placed as mothers, secretaries, and assistants for successful men. They had to break social barriers to get where they are now. Women had to get the education to make them stronger, so they can match with men. They had to start as assistants and secretaries in order to compete with men in the workplace.…

I never expected working at a fast food restaurant to change my life. When I first applied online, I had a preconceived notion about what my experience at Chipotle would be like. I expected the fast food restaurant to be like any other I had heard about. I would go to work, make food, then go home. In direct contrast, the environment at Chipotle is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, not even in a Christian school.…

Many men tend to have the mentality that a women should not be in the leadership position. Having such mentality is wrong because many women demonstrate the best skills, experience and knowledge which are necessary for leadership job roles.
