Nursing has always been a career I have had an interest in, but there was something different in actually experiencing the work a nurse does from their perspective to that of just a visitor in a hospital that made it all click. I knew then that there was nothing I would love to do more.
I’ve had experience with both children and adults. My first year work placement at college was with children and allowed me to get a feeling for what it’s like to work in a health/ social care setting. I then got the opportunity to do a week’s work placement at RD&E with adults and for me it was something I found more natural and easy to flow with than my time with children which told me adult nursing was the path of nursing I wanted to go down. …show more content…
I decided to continue studying it at college because of this and also so I could go into more depth about the subject. I look forward to studying nursing and getting to use the knowledge I have already learnt through health and social care with all the new knowledge I am going to gain.
From what I have witnessed from other nurses and also gained from speaking with patients in a hospital as well as my own knowledge and ideas, I understand it is important for a nurse to be caring, understanding and also empathetic. This not only helps build relationships with the patients but allows the patients, even in difficult times to be comfortable and content. I believe I have showed these skills in my time in the hospital as well as my time in the nursery from the feedback I received though I have also been told by both my friend and family that these are skills I
