Dance has been a major part of my life since, well since I could walk. It's my passion. I have basically grown up at my dance studio. I stay there everyday after school until late at night. I've learned a lot of great life lessons there. One of the major lessons I have learned is how to be a good leader. I learned specifically the work ethic needed to become a good leader.

At my dance studio we have dancers who are the Assistants. The assistants consist of the top 25 students in the studio. I am an Assistant. As an Assistant I have to help the dance teachers with their classes and students, so I have to be a leader. All assistants have make sure class is going smoothly and everyone is behaving. I wasn't born a natural dancer. I've had to work for where I am today. To get up to be one of the top 25 dancers I had to make sure I was working hard. My determination to succeed was strong because I was so passionate about dance. I had developed my work ethic in the process of wanting to become an Assistant.

After I was able to become an Assistant I noticed I lost some of my energy to work so hard and so did my teachers. I realized I was no longer dancing as well as the other dancers and I wasn't leading my classes as well as I should have been. I had to reapply myself. So I decided to start really paying attention to the dancers in my Assistant classes and what they needed. If any of the younger girls looked like they were struggling I would take the initiative to always go and lead them in the right direction. This then allowed me to gain my work ethic back and become not only a better dancer but a better person.

The Assistant program has taught me to not only become a leader who has great work ethic, but it has taught me to adapt well. As a leader I have to make sure you take indicative when problems present themselves, but when the situation isn’t going the way I want it to I have to change my strategy to resolve the

Clarence, I agree with you completely that older generations follow the motto “a hard day’s work for an honest day’s pay”. I work with a few older employees and they work 5x harder than some of the younger employees I work with. I also received a 35 on my EI test which I was not surprised of either. I have a very high work ethic and have very little time for play in my job. I do need to learn to put myself in others shoes; sometimes this is very hard for me to do.…

I have always wanted to dance. For as long as I can remember I have looked on at a world I was not allowed to enter. Dance is an art form that allows people to express themselves. Ballet serves as a foundation to all modern dance forms. Many people believe ballet is a dying art because it’s not something the United States is known for. If asked, most people would only be able to name Mikhail Baryshnikov, a Russian dancer who reached his height of fame in the 1970s. Although ballet is most popular in and associated with Russia, it is still a worldly-known art and thousands of people practice it everyday.…

In dance, you learn quickly that without pure dedication and drive you will never be successful. While talent can come naturally, skill and technique only come with hard work. I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences. Medicine is a practice which calls for just as much discipline, dedication, and drive.…

I see impressive athletes, even warriors who are battling to attain unattainable perfection. Furthermore, I believe they are the epitome of resilient spirits. I am not a ballerina myself, but I know the truth about their world.…
