I withdrew from the University of Connecticut due to medical reasons. When I withdrew, I did not know what was causing my symptoms. The symptoms were, however, severely interfering with my ability to well in classes. I decided to withdraw from UCONN and focus my energies on addressing my health. Though I was extremely disappointed that my declining health forced me to leave UCONN, I knew I would not be able to do as well as I could, academically.
Over the course of the following years, my symptoms worsened. I experienced severe brain fog, lethargy, anxiety, panic attacks, severe muscle spasms, joint, and bone pain that I would eventually come to learn were being caused by thyroid problems. I promised myself that if I made it through, and despite any adversity, I would not let anything stop me from following my dreams and pursuing my passions. Though my adjustment to hormone replacement medications has been a struggle and I do occasionally still have thyroid related symptoms, I have recovered sufficiently enough to resume my studies at UCONN. During my recovery time, I began taking classes at Manchester Community College to test the waters, so to speak. I was able to successfully complete several classes despite having symptoms and being in poor health at the time. Since then, my health has significantly improved as my doctors and I have finally discovered the correct dose of replacement hormone for me. I feel so much better, all around, than I have in more than a decade! In addition to this, I now have a much stronger support system in place than I initially had when I started at UCONN. I have persevered and am determined to return to UCONN to pursue my academic and career goals. I am ready, willing, and able to devote myself fully to my
