Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

Many people from my hometown use the phrase, “Everything is greater in Decatur.” Decatur, GA is where I was born and raised and has been an integral part in shaping me into the young lady I am today and the woman I am becoming. Members of my family and my community have gone on to do great things outside of this city, which has provided solid proof that there are more great opportunities outside of Decatur, GA. People have left to become educators who are now teaching, guiding, and delivering necessary tools for individuals to be successful; lawmakers who are developing plans and policies to create a well-balanced and structured society; professional athletes who are working diligently to study and perfect their craft, and many other professions.…

I currently reside in Markham, the city is a part of York Region and is located just north of Toronto. I moved there at the end of eighth grade, and since then it has been my hometown. Markham is a boring place to be, rarely does anything eventful ever happens, and there is really nothing to do, there is a mall, a theatre and occasionally there’s a festival, which is pretty much it. This is aided by the fact that crime is low in the city, there are few murders and little robberies, with most notable crimes being the occasional weed deal here and there. Markham is also a quiet place, mainly thanks to a small population, the minimal traffic and lack of pedestrians keeps noise to a minimum.…

I began looking for all sorts of resources and opportunities the university had to offer.…
