Personal Narrative: My Vulnerability To Stress Assessment

Decent Essays
My vulnerability to stress assessment shows that I am not vulnerable to stress, my score was a 27. I was actually surprised by that number, I thought I was more vulnerable to stress than my result, for which I’m proud of. I’m usually stress over life events, usually expected, but especially unexpected life events, such as unexpected text, homework, and family emergencies. I usually internally freak out and sometime gesture frantically until I force myself to find a way out of the situation, or find a feasible way to solve it. I’m getting better at controlling my stress as the day goes, since I’ve learned from similar stressors, but sometime, I completely loses it. I loses it when my stress are being accumulated without specific resolutions. If it calls for crying, then I do, but in a very remoted place without the presence of others, even close family and friends. …show more content…
I am both Type A and Type B. I can see myself being both, although I am slightly toward Type A than B in my daily activities, but I see both personality very clearly in my life. This score means that I can balance my priorities / responsibilities and well manage my stress. I am definitely a perfectionist, keep a constant loock at my watch (the only hand jewelry I wear), walk fast, eat fast, ignore fatigue while doing strenuous work and very competitive. Consequently, I am serious, but easy going, enjoy leisure (reading or watching comedy, but only when I’m done with all my work), prefer a quiet & tranquil lifestyle and have a tremendous drive. I’m somewhat impress that I can relate to both side of the personality

When I think of the word career, I don’t just think of a professional option or activity, the first thing that comes to my mind is a lifestyle you enjoy based on your vocation. It was easy for my parents to hear stories from other people that the U.S. was a place for change and a better future, but did not know all the challenges and stressors they had to experience to make their dreams come true. The stressor was a random stressor event because my parents were not well informed about immigrating to the U.S and they had the idea that it would be for a better future. The stressor event was intense since the beginning my parents immigrated to the U.S to have a better future, but as soon as the got here it was different and they struggled in many negative ways. The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

The Arrival I had originally planned to travel to Rio on September 5th through September 12th. A perspicacious and experienced hunter named Rainsford accompanied me. It was nighttime when I first spotted land of any sort. It was vaguely visible and was opaque, so misty that even Rainsford couldn’t see it. Utterly tired, I began drifting off, dreaming of the adventures we were soon to face.…

The results of my personality inventory indicate that I have a Type A personality (350 out of 380). Type A personalities are often impatient, have difficulty relaxing, and are competitive (Gray-Stanley, 2009). My impatience is evident when I take my dogs out for their bathroom breaks. As dogs will do, they sniff every bush in the yard before urinating and I find myself scolding them for being too slow. In addition, relaxation is not part of my vocabulary at this time as I constantly feel the need to complete homework or study for a test.…

I had a similar situation where I felt the workload was too much, causing a lot of stress. I was the only one working the front desk, as well as helping the doctor with patient workouts. The doctor was aware the workload was a lot for one worker, and was in the process of hiring another employee. Even though the job caused a lot of stress, I believe it taught me to multi-task, be efficient, and work under pressure. The best way I deal with stress, is to see it as a challenge.…

Joe Leaming, an old friend who had owned Porsches, lived in Tucson and while there, I show him my new Porsche and saw his gray 356C Cabriolet. Joe knew more about Porsches than anyone, and he related that Porsche just released the new 6-cylinder 911. That intrigued me because the 356 was short on power and had significant vibrations. He told me about the oversteer problem, but that wasn’t of concern since I didn’t push cars to their limits. I enjoyed seeing him and was interested in the 911. Overall, the Tucson visit was constructive with little to no family controversy and…

When is it okay to be vulnerable? If you ask my father the answer is never. Maybe I should follow his advice and never be vulnerable. But If I took his advice more often I wouldn’t have ended up at a college 366.16 miles away from home. Change is not something I excel at.…

The standard strain theory is when there is no imbalance between culturally valued goals and legitimate means to obtain them. In the twenty- first century of the United Sates when you are a child you are taught you need to go to college and receive a good education in order to have a successful career. If I were not able to attend college for some legitimate reason I would still find a way to get to the goals I have set for myself. There are many members in my family that did not attend college, but that did not stop them from finding ways to get to where they want in life. They had the driven mind set to getting the goals they wanted.…

Most teenagers weekend consists of going out to a family party or hanging out with friends and forming new memories and great experiences, but not all teenager weekends consist of harm befalling upon them. In my case, like most teenagers, I never imagined that I would be a victim of violence until the night I went out with a few friends to what should have been a night of regrets, mistakes, and learning experiences, but instead it ended up being a night of pain, sadness, and anger. On the night of December 22, 2002 I learned to trust my instinct instead of giving in to peer pressure, I also learned to be more vigilant towards my surroundings and lastly I discovered I could manage situations under heavy distress. Peer pressure can sometimes be a big issue among teenagers, especially among teenage boys.…

My experience of stress can be best described as a rollercoaster, steadily climbing and once at the top it can plunge down and back up and to the left and to the right, almost as if the stress is controlling the ride. Stress has changed over the years as well. My early childhood life didn’t include the worry of life, but the concern of self. I grew up as a very shy individual and was constantly scared to talk or speak in many situations. I am not sure how or why I was a shy individual, but it was a big stressor during my early development.…
