Personal Narrative: My Visit To Pohnpei

Improved Essays
I was in Pohnpei in April for four weeks, during which time I taught in the Bible school four hours a day, five days a week; taught a cell group Bible study one evening in town each week; as well as preached in the church on Sundays (I was preaching six days a week with one day to rest). I have been returning frequently to Pohnpei, and this year was my tenth anniversary since my first visit to Pohnpei in 2002! They have been like my spiritual children in the Lord. (I returned again to Pohnpei in May
2013, and on Mothers’ Day they honored me as their spiritual mother in the church and ministry! That was the first time I’ve ever been honored on Mothers’ Day!) For the last ten years, they have been using my Bible school curriculum in their Bible school; however, the two teachers who were trained

They asked me to come and give some training to the new teachers, and I was very pleased to see the spiritual growth of the church and school since my last visit there in 2010. There was an increased spiritual hunger, as
I saw many more students and church members coming to the classes and services.
From Pohnpei on Friday, April 27, I flew ten hours to Maui again and ministered to the
Pohnpeians who live there. They are also like my spiritual children. We had powerful meetings each evening, Monday through Friday, April 30 to May 4, because they are greatly hungry for the Word of
God! I was also blessed to share some precious fellowship with them on the weekends. Of course, I did some sightseeing and saw some gorgeous scenery too! It was a blessed time, and I am thankful to
God for letting me enjoy it! I returned home again on Tuesday, May 8.

I just returned home from a very fruitful missionary journey to Kenya and India in September

The Boger Gallery and Williams Memorial Chapel are displaying the unique work of Stephen Watson, an artist whose medium is ground spices. Watson’s spice art installments are made by sprinkling powdered spices and herbs onto pieces of precut plexiglass that are laid on the floor. Custom designed stencils are used to layer the spices and create intricate patterns and designs. Watson said he has been working with spices exclusively for almost two years and there was a journey that brought him to using such an unusual medium. “I was making a body of work for a church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.…

I have had various experiences in the last two years, but the one I feel is the most significant is the time I spent volunteering for the Detroit Mission Trip. This opportunity presented itself in June of 2014 through my church, Metro South Church. I spent one week, Monday through Friday, each day-all day, commuting from my home in Brownstown to the inner city of Detroit. Each day of this mission trip consisted of various volunteer jobs. I was one of approximately 100 people that engaged in the process of making life better for others.…

The morning starts bright and early, children arrive, their eyes are filled with excitement. Singing and dancing takes place, children laughing and playing with friends; they learn new stories and something new each day of the week. There is glitter, glue, paper, and stickers on the floor. I inspire to be many things, mainly having a philosophy of serving others in the field of health care, I believe we should form a symbiotic relationship as professional health provider, making it our obligation to not only understand the symptom but the social effects and developing possible cure; supporting and strengthening our existing institution while providing a better quality of life. I acquire these values nearly three decades ago, where I had the opportunity to volunteer in my community at the local church on Staten Island. As you know the church can serve a community in many special and unique ways, from tutoring the youth, to transitioning young adults into first time parenthood, as well as, assisting the community with entitlement programs. One of the major anxieties and financial struggles in my community were families managing a loved one with multiple-infirmities. This is when I began to see the church as much more than a place…

Faith in Action Paper I spent my 15 faith service hours volunteering for Feed My Starving Children and I helped the maintenance crew around the school. While I did this I made new friends and grew as a person as well as in my faith. I probably spent about 8 or more of my service hours volunteering for Feed My Starving Children. Before when I was younger, I would go in because my older sister needed service hours and scoop some veggies and powder into a funnel for an hour and a half. Then after the session my sister would have me walk up to the counter and ask for a slip of paper with the service hours on it, so she give them to her school’s counselor and get the hours out of the way faster.…

Ready for Blastoff Curiosity constantly leads me to new adventures and memories, and combined with my passions, it eventually led me to Chabot Space and Science Center. Driving up the windy hills and past the redwood trees for my first field trip in fourth grade, the magnificent sight of grand telescopes overwhelmed me once my class arrived at Chabot. As time flew by, I continued visiting Chabot with my family from time to time, but I decided to finally become a part of the Chabot family in high school.…

After coming back home from a winter retreat, I concluded that I need to talk to pastor to get baptized, and I did on April 23, 2017. My mission group and I work woke up one morning to a beautiful sunrise, and magnificent weather. Despite the fact we had to get up at five in the morning, I was eager to see what the day entailed.…

Calvary Commission, the seminary that I stayed at, is located a few miles out of town on a land that seems to never end. I could walk miles and still find myself to be on Calvary Commission’s property. The first day I was there, my group and I went on a little hike up to the prayer chapel, which sat on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and a bonfire pit stood a few feet away.
