Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…
I grew up in a neighborhood that most of the city didn’t know about. Then, I moved three times and lived in six different houses. Next, I went to a college that most people didn’t know about. Then, something happened that changed my life. Keep reading to see my falls, speed bumps, and victories.…
I first heard of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute my sophomore year, when someone I knew received the Rensselaer Medalist Award. After speaking with them about the award, I knew I wanted to learn more about Rensselaer. Additionally, it was the time I started creating my college list. I began to research different schools and my interest was peaked as I learned more about Rensselaer. During my junior year I was awarded with the Medalist Award.…
I was born in Detroit and moved away before I had my brain was able to create memories. The only part of Detroit I knew was downtown. I’d go there for Tiger games, the Science Center, and the D.I.A. Before coming to U of D, I had the same stereotypical view of Detroit as most of United States. I thought of Detroit as being a city with a nice downtown but dangerous and rundown everywhere else. I was so wrong.…
The Midwest is home to states with rich cultural backgrounds and popular tourist attractions. To take a break from the busy schedule I have as a student, and to avoid writing more essays like this, I went on a vacation to Michigan with my mother and two siblings. We visited South Haven, a pleasant port city on Lake Michigan’s east coast, and Detroit, the famous largest city in Michigan. These areas interest me because there’s plenty to do; there are amazing restaurants, breath-taking scenery, and family-friendly, inexpensive entertainment. South Haven is famed for its relaxed atmosphere and homely feel.…
Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…
This is a true story about when my family and I moved to Dotson Street. When I was 2 years old we sold our old house and had to live in my great-grandparents house, when my new house was being built. My great grandparents were not there because they had recently moved into an assisted living complex. My great grandparents let, Steve, Susan, Cody, Nolan, my dog Chase, and I stay in their home. Everything seemed normal at first while we were moving in, but as time went on things got strange.…

I went with all of my family including; Me, my parents, my brother, my uncles, and my grandma. When we went to Kings Island we drove from my house, stopped at my grandma’s house in Indianapolis.…
I remember going to the Greater Allan Cathedral when I was a younger teen. I started going there with my family every Sunday to the churches 8:30 a.m. service. Or, if we woke up early enough, the 6:15 a.m. My Father made sure we went to church every Sunday. He cut our hair every Saturday morning so we were sharp, and ready to receive the word from Pastor Floyd H. Flake and his wife, Elaine Flake.…
A mixture of mud, blood, and dust coated our bodies; to my left and right, cannonballs flew at us. Though we knew not how or when we were going to succeed, we just knew that we had to succeed. Every hardship I had gone through had led to this moment, every hardship I went through had made me become this person. I am Lafayette, and if socialising, sailing the terrifying sea, and living in Valley Forge couldn't shake me, then no British army would.…
Times have been rough, but I am sure you are aware of this. I am writing to you in a time of extremely dire circumstances. During a case I was part of not too long ago a discourteous lawyer absolutely engulfed in his work decided to say such words that have lifted a forgotten sprit within me. After speaking to the Attorney General about allowing 'mixed company' to be present in cases about prostitution, I was much too overjoyed about winning that I failed to realize the many injustices that are still prevailing, ruining our fellow sisters. It is because of this reason that when I heard such infantile words come out of that lawyers mouth was I absolutely appalled.…
Eastvale has been listed one of the safest cities to live in California. Eastvale is a brand new city which was built almost 11 years ago. I grew up in this city and I never witnessed in any point in my life where I felt unsafe. We had very low crime rate in my city and when crime appeared it was rare. Eastvale is a small city where everyone knows everyone and where you run into people you know no matter where you go.…
I have accomplished different things throughout my four years at Cox Mill. I made the varsity baseball team as a sophomore, was nominated to homecoming court freshman and junior years, and won the title of Prom Prince my junior year. I have struggled with a learning disability in reading and a transient tic disorder, but managed to complete a few honors courses successfully. However, my biggest success and legacy would be my ability to work well and accept others for who they are, without stereotyping.…
The next morning, Mercy surprised Surina by joining her for breakfast on the sunny terrace in the backyard of her cottage. They enjoyed the leisurely meal to the sound of honey bees buzzing around an assortment of flowers in full bloom lining the edges of the garden. Indeed, the fragrance of the rhododendrons, chrysanthemums, foxgloves, roses, and lilies of the valley intermingled to create a unique heavenly perfume. In the past, Surina’s kinetic pace never allowed her enough time for breakfast other than a hasty granola bar before frantically rushing off to the hospital. In contrast, today she luxuriated in a proper full English breakfast.…
Even though Newark has a bad name with negative stereotypes it’s my home. In Newark, New Jersey I was born, went to school, made friends, and learned a lot. I was born to huge family where I grew up in the known most dangerous town in Newark, New Community. This same town is where my family grew up as well. The neighborhood was so bad my mother never allowed me to play outside.…
