Personal Narrative: My Visit To Big Moose Lake

Improved Essays
This summer I went to Big Moose Lake in upstate New York. I go every year with all of my cousins and we all hang out with each other for a week. It is our kind of family reunion because I have 20 cousins on my dad’s side and 12 aunt’s and uncle’s and we never get to see each other. Most of them live in New York, so does my grandma, some live in Pennsylvania, and my two cousins and I live in California. At Big Moose Lake we all stay at a place on the lake with a bunch of cabins that we rent out. It’s called Covewood. There are lots of activities at Covewood such as swimming in the lake, kayaking, water skiing, tubing, playing on the big field, doing arts and crafts in the kids crafts cabin, or just hanging out at the cabins. I remember when I use to live in Newfoundland, it was so different for me since I was born and raised in Brampton Ontario, and there was no multi culture on this island. When I first moved there I remember people would stare at me and look at me differently because of my skin color they would automatically assume I wasn’t from Canada or not Canadian because I wasn’t “white”. They wouldn’t consider me as a “Canadian” as well as a “Newfie” because I didn’t have the “Canadian” accent. Another reason was because I wasn’t big on hockey or watched the games they would be so confused and offended because I didn’t have much knowledge on the hockey teams. Remembering all of this again the reason being for many of them not considering me as a “Canadian”…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…

In the fifth grade during spring break my family and I decided to go to Clifty Falls and walk around in the caves and on the walking trails. I had told my mom I was having trouble breathing that morning and wanted to stay home, but of course she would not let me because it was a”family event. ” We were there long enough to eat lunch and travel down a path to a waterfall and on the way back we decided to stop in one of the caves. About that time I felt my chest tightening up and knew that this was a bad idea to go into a damp cave when all I wanted to do was to go home and sleep.…

Ever since I was a little girl I have fantasized about living in South Dakota. I don’t know necessarily what appealed to me about living there, but it was always my dream. Maybe it was the idea of green grass swaying in the wind, or buffaloes freely roaming around. Being a small town girl, I’ve always been looking for a change. When my family took a vacation to South Dakota, that was what it took to confirm my dream.…

It was a cold bitter night on the 1st of December in 2012. I decided to try out a new hunting spot for the first time. I knew that it was going to be much colder because i did not have any walls around me to protect me from the brutally cold wind. The temperature gauge read a bone chilling 5 degrees, and i knew that it was only going to get worse as the day came to an end. I made sure to wear extra clothes and to dress in layers for the long five hours that I have ahead of me sitting up against a tree.…

When I had the opportunity for a vacation, I immediately arranged a fishing trip. I was so excited to visit Devils Lake to satisfy my search for some Panfish, smallmouth, trout, perch, Northern pike, walleye and many other large reef dwelling creatures, but I did not know that I am in for an unusual experience, that inside water like Devils Lake anything is possible. The fishing was excellent, I must say, in addition to good weather condition during my visit. I really enjoyed dropping jigs into Devils Lake water.…
