Personal Narrative: My Uncle In Jail

Decent Essays
To be honest, if my uncle was ever in jail in the first place, I wouldn't go help him escape. But if I have to imagine myself in Creighton's shoes, then I guess I would. Either way, there's a reason why he's there and it's not my problem that he is in jail. That's his problem. He can solve it on his own. Another thing is that I'll chicken out.
Creighton was at risk for getting caught by guards and thrown in jail just to have his uncle escape.

If I must start anywhere with my story; with who I am, my dad’s imprisonment is where I’d start. His incarceration is the catalyst to what changed my entire life completely. As a result of his imprisonment, my parents separated and I was forced to live with my grandmother. It is 7:23 a.m. on a Thursday morning, the pass allowing tardiness to first hour is tucked away in my tattered blue backpack. I sit in my car gazing at the quiet building. I have seven minutes to make it up the staircase, adorned with two lamp posts. I, along with many others, have visited Morgan Federal, the bank across the street, countless times and never realized just what was in the vicinity. A friend who works next door in the courthouse suggested I profile this place and gave the directions: “It’s in the old jail,” as if that was a common reference automatically understood.…

I see a lot of corruption and a lot of nonsense, Especially towards minorities.…

According to Rideau, “The prison houses 4,600 men and offers academic training to 240, vocational training to a like number.” Once someone is convicted of a crime they should not be locked away and forgotten. They need an education in a trade so if they are released to society they will become skillful and purposeful citizens. The choices that they made to land in a prison were most likely due to uneducated and impulsive decisions. When they are locked away we should not neglect them, we should give them the opportunities to improve their lives.…
