Personal Narrative: My Uncle In Houston

Superior Essays
“Uncle, why are there so many Chinese and Vietnamese in Houston? Aren’t we in the United States?” I remember asking that question to my uncle when I first came to Houston.
Houston is a city bustling with various cultures and ethnics not to mention it is the fourth largest cities in the United States. I was born in Malaysia but Houston is like a second home to me. The main reason is that I have family members residing here. My uncle moved to Houston about 15 years ago after completing his degree in Canada and now he is living in Richland Drive, Sugar Land. My aunt did the same few years later and she was residing in Sugar Land before she got married and moved to Cypresswoods. My granduncle and his wife are staying in Old Legend Drive, which

The moment I stepped on the driveway of the garage in my uncle’s house, neighbors who live beside my uncle greeted me with a smile, the garage was like a small house for cars and my uncle’s house was huge for a person who lives alone. Suddenly, a small oak tree in the backyard of my uncle’s house caught my attention. The backyard had wooden fence surrounding it and there was nothing there but the oak tree. It was one of the most beautiful oak trees I ever saw. ‘Crown’ is the perfect word to describe it. It wore its branches proudly and exuded an imposing and powerful dignity like a king. It was like love at first sight to me. Every day I would be playing around the tree. Sometimes, I even pretended that the oak tree was my bodyguard, protecting me from the imaginary bullets shot by the imaginary gunmen. When I was bored, I would try to climb the oak tree, which I failed to do so. I leaned against the trunk as I felt it was somehow comfortable as if I could feel the warmness of the tree. It was the best spot to read books and relax myself from the stress of every day life, even though I was only nine. Sadly, after a few weeks, I have to travel back to Malaysia due to the start of the new school
