Personal Narrative: My Two Processed Food

Decent Essays
Two processed foods that I enjoy eating are doritos and cheese curls. I examined the labels and discovered that cheese curls contain two grams of sugar per serving and 290 milligrams of sodium per serving. Doritos contain one gram of sugar per serving and 180 milligrams of sodium per serving. Most of the ingredients in these snacks are artificial or chemical. I have never thought about what ingredients were in the snacks, or thought about looking at the labels before I eat the food. The only reason I would ever look at the label is to see how many calories I am taking in. When I examined the labels I was surprised by how much sugar, sodium, and artificial ingredients were in the snacks. However, cheese curls and doritos are still my two favorite

It is not Chipotle, but it will have to do. Everyone has had this thought at the end of the month when the money to spend on takeout has run out and now we are stuck settling with eating in the dining hall that we are forced to pay a ridiculous amount of money for. On the first tour of Baylor’s many dining halls they had put out the superior delicious food, I guess that must be kept in the back now. Back then it seemed as if there was an edible choice for anyone and everyone; including vegans, and the freshman fifteen seemed inevitable. Having been here now for almost a semester the façade of the likelihood of delicious vegan meals had faded long ago.…

I come from a poor family. I never had brand-name shoes or video games, or even a Lisa Frank binder and stickers like my friends at school, but I always had plenty of food in the fridge at home. My family never went hungry in spite of the fact that we were raised by a single mother who made her living as a coffee shop waitress. I did not know, till I was a teenager, that my mom bought the majority of our groceries with food stamps. It never seemed odd to me that she went to the grocery store one time a month and stocked up on milk, sugar, lunchmeat, chicken legs, hamburger meat, and most importantly, coffee.…

Food Inc. is a documentary that given an in depth look at the types of food that we eat every day. The Trip to the Grocery Store I haven’t seen him in weeks or maybe even months, I thought as I glared across the small distance between where I was standing and my dad’s car. With my One Direction CD clutched in my hands, I started to close the distance by walking towards his car. I opened the door and slipped in, and then he started to drive to the grocery store. At the time I was under the illusion that my dad would be even slightly happy to see me, but no.…

From a young age, my parents have always enforced the idea of eating healthy constantly badgering me to eat my vegetables or have a piece of protein with my meals. Although I might not have understood why their reprimanding was important, over the course of these last few weeks in biology I have come to realize that having a sound diet in many ways encompasses what it means to be healthy and live life to its fullest. By actively moderating, recording, and learning about what I have been eating I can now clearly understand that my parents were right to encourage healthy eating in my home. My parent, specifically my mother, was always the one who cooked and influenced my healthy eating at a young age. When looking at my food logs for this…

Processed foods in today’s society are a huge contributor to the health issues seen around the world. Processed foods are not only foods such as polony, viennas and other processed meat products that one would expect to be labelled as such, but also almost all foods eaten. Meat is processed from animal to plate, so is fruit and vegetables. Processed foods are one of the most highly consumed food groups nowadays, because they are convenient and they are “hyper rewarding”, causing overconsumption. (Gunnars, 2017).…

When I was in high school, my mom was diagnosed with stage-III breast cancer. I still remember the doctor explaining to my family that her being overweight was a potential contributing factor. At that moment, I realized the importance of a healthy diet; seeing my mother struggle to survive each day further inspired me to pursue a nutritional science major. Even then, I imagined that I would one day become a dietitian, which would give me the chance to help sick people like my mom prolong their lives. My ambition was to facilitate healthy eating lifestyles in order to reduce chronic disease.…
