Personal Narrative: My Trip To Washington

Decent Essays
Going to Washington D.C for the inauguration of our current president, Donald Trump, was a difficult time. This was due to fact of me being Hispanic, and Trump's comments was not a happy moment.
It was my first time going on a plane so the first day of my trip was very nerve racking, i also have never been so far away from home. my biggest fear was forgetting something important at home, so i checked 3 times to make sure i had everything. it was time to leave my mom and go to the airport. although it was heart breaking to leave her, this was a once in a life time opportunity. When I visited George Washington my sophomore year of high school, I instantly knew that your school is where I wanted to go for college. It just wasn't like any of the other colleges that I had seen before, and for that matter it was unlike any I have seen since. I saw that GW is in a beautiful location and that its presence in the capitol greatly enhances both its value and the city’s around it. I really liked walking around the campus, as it was extremely vibrant. I saw that safety is also important, and the combination of security that holds jurisdiction in this area is extremely reassuring.…

Have you ever loved someone so much, you’d give an arm for them? Not the expression, no literally give an arm for? Growing up in Haiti with my brother, I remember teasing and pushing him around, because thats what big brothers are supposed to do. One of the things I remember most vividly about him was waking up every morning to play soccer with a tennis ball we found, and racing each other all through town with our hands behind our backs pretending we were cars. Everyday wasn’t always perfect, like those days we spent chasing each other because we fought, just like all siblings, and I didn't always appreciate having a younger brother.…

“You’re not going to feel anything,” the nurse with the fake lips exclaimed. “Yeah, right,” I murmured under my breath as I thought about how many people she had said that to today. Since when do nurses wear more makeup than clowns? Her lips were as thick as my broken, swollen thumb; her eyebrows looked like squirrels above her eyes; she looked worse than a clown. I couldn’t understand how frustrating it might be to mess up and have to start her makeup routine all over; it probably takes her at least two hours.…

Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

I had no idea what to expect but in the plane on the way there my imagination was running wild and I was incredibly excited. The flight to Costa Rica was difficult because I hadn’t been on a plane in about fifteen years, and I was scared. Visions are only unique as the individual themselves who make up this country. America is not the same as it was ten years ago. Who would have thought that we would have cell phones that were similar to a small computer in our pocket, a car that could talk back to us, or that we would have an African American president? Our visions for America could change everyday. My vision for America is very unique for my age group.…

I loved the trip to Atlanta, Georgia I took with my mom’s side of the family. First I went to the Atlanta mall. There, we tramped through variety stores, and we watched Vacation in a wicked movie theater. Then, we rode a shuttle to my cousin’s beautiful wedding and elegant reception. The reception was full of caterers, amazing food, a drink bar, desserts, and a lot of other amazing stuff.…

America’s Gift to My Generation would be education and schooling. Education and schooling is a gift because with children going through school only a few will become our next inventors and scientists. The education will help make our medical teams and technology better than it has ever been before. The schooling is based on how well students work in a classroom because I know I work better at a public school then being home schooled. But for one of my friends it’s the opposite.…

It was a slow moving watercourse most of the year but in the spring it flowed with force, swollen with the winter melt and emptying its contents into the Columbia River, before moving downstream onto Cascade Locks. At this time of the year the river was halfway to being frozen. The better part of Autumn was finished and the trees following the river were stark and almost leafless, the colorful reds and yellows of The Fall giving way to a brown carpet of mush. Today the black water was unhurried, its surface pockmarked by raindrops with the occasional swirl to draw attention to its icy currents.…

In January of last year I went on a trip to Colorado on a "college visit" with a friend and my father to University of Colorado Boulder. We left Wednesday night, skipping school both Thursday and Friday. We did go to the college and took a tour of the campus on Thursday which I greatly enjoyed, it is beautiful out there and at elevation there is very little humidity. The true intention of the trip, as important as the college visit was, was to go to Breckenridge Resort and spend the weekend snowboarding. A couple of my dad's friends were also going and we were going to share their timeshare.…
