This moment was deeply rooted in my mind as I visited the observatory on January 16th of this year with my mother Jeannie. I realized that my most recent trip to the observatory would not only be a pleasant activity for the weekend, but would bare an underlying tinge of nostalgia as well. This exhibit was interesting to me at the time because I was learning about telescopes so it provided me with a more visual and interactive learning experience. The visual experience included a part of a telescope used for astronomical research in previous years and was enclosed in glass within the wall. This visual presentation provided me with context as to how large some of these telescopes can be. This part of the hall also awakened the inner patriotic Californian in me, when it discussed the research and discoveries conducted in my home …show more content…
My mother and I walked down into The Gottlieb Transit Corridor and after some reading for reference we discovered it was a display of how ancient and earlier astronomers recorded time and the seasons. Although the 21st century spin on the structures was interesting and innovative, I feel that it would have been beneficial to provide a historical context through displaying structural or visual comparisons between old and

Eighteenth and 19th century technologies transformed the way in which the night sky was observed and led to the discovery of celestial wonders, from stars, galaxies, meteors, moons, planets, comets to nebula. The result was, in part, the creation of celestial maps that showed an exponential number of stars in the heavens, adding to the awe of a sphere that is millions of miles away and beautiful beyond compare. Star atlases became a way of conveying information about the heavens, and Elijah H. Burritt's, "The Geography of the Heavens, 1856 (Cover-title: Atlas designed to illustrate Burritt's Geography of the Heavens), edited by Hiram Mattison and first published in 1833, is a 6-chart atlas that illustrates the mapping of the stars and features the constellations prominently and in great detail. There were several editions after and thousands of copies in print sold over a generation to meet the demand for this popular book.…

The Dallas Museum of Art was the complete opposite of what I imagined it to be like. Before attending the museum, I had very low expectations. When I thought of “art museum” I imagined dusty walls lined with undiverse and outdated art. I imagined a place old couples went to because they had nothing better to do with their time. A place where the past lingered and grew old as civilization quickly moved on and forgot about it.…

Today I was looking at some old pictures from my 1993 trip to Death Valley National Park. When I was a kid I hated camping, but now I have fond memories of these trips, which just does to show how time can change our perception of things. We visited Echo Canyon, and camped there for the night. There is a ghost in Echo Canyon, which I photographed at the time. This canyon is true to its name-sake as you can shout and your voice will carry on the wind for miles and bounce back off the mountains in the distance.…
