Personal Narrative: My Trip To Sierra Community College

Decent Essays
I went to a college rep visit and the also toured a perspective college. As i do not fulfill the language requirement for california universities I looked into community colleges, out of state universities, and private universities. I then focused on a Johnson and Wales university rep visit and a tour of Sierra Community College. I ultimately chose to go with Sierra.
Sierra was originally recommended to me by an engineer at the career fair. It then had a major that I was very interested in, that being mechatronic engineering. It is one of the only two programs in california, the other being Chico State. It was spoken very highly of to me. This major includes everything that I loved to within the school robotics team.
It also allowed me to

I have always been independent, but I fully seeked independence when I was 16 years old. This was the year of 2016, and this was the year that my life changed; I was forced to grow up and learn how to be more independent. The first step to my seeking of independence was turning 16 years old and getting my driver’s license. This meant I was finally able to go out on my own and not rely on others to take me places anymore. In the year of 2016, I also began taking classes at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute to earn college credits.…

UCLA and Cal Poly are both great schools. I know this because my mom went to UCLA, and my dad went to Cal Poly Pomona. I would really love to be accepted into either one of these schools, but first we should see which is better for me. I would love to focus my studies in science and/or art. My research will show how different these schools really are and which would be a better choice for me.…

As a first time student attending Spokane Falls Community College, I honestly thought that the only buildings and areas of campus involving my class schedule would be of importance. Little did I know that one room I would encounter would become my safe haven. I remember the first day stepping out onto campus and all I saw was a giant riddle waiting to be solved so many parking spaces, buildings, rooms, classes, and students. The anticipation bubbling up inside of me was exciting and rooted with a little nervousness. I was searching for place to keep me focused on my goal of being a successful student, a place to refresh between rigorous lectures.…

I flourish in modest environments similar to a high school classroom where I can focus on bonding with my instructor and the students. Clarkson College was the perfect fit. Secondly, another reason why I chose Clarkson College, was because of the close proximity to my home. I reside in Lincoln, Nebraska and while I wanted to move away from home and be a little freer, I still wanted to be close.…

CSUN would be my second choice because their biology program isn't as good as channel islands program. Even though it gets a bad reputation because most kids from the valley that apply get in it is a good school that people from out of state come to study. LATTC would be my final choice because even though trade school and community college save you money there are benefits of going to a csu. CSU’s have higher acceptance rates than most UC's and students who had a tough time academically in high school and want to start over straight from a university rather than a…

My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

Claremont McKenna College (CMC) is where I want to grow. I want to discover the world here, and be surrounded by people who value the importance of being a trailblazer in society. I want a campus that is personal; where professors would know me by my first name. I want a community so inclusive, that I would be able to have friends in majors completely different than mine. Hamilton took me by surprise. I knew it was a small liberal arts college, but I had no grasp on how unique and genuine the community was. So many people said hi to my tour guide, Emily, as she showed me around -- including the line cook in the dining hall! I also heard how a student emailed 10 alumni to help her with something, and all of them replied to her. This kind of close-knit, loving family is what I want in a college experience.…

All my life, I’ve been aware of the people around me and considered what I could do to make their lives more fortunate. With this interest in mind, I joined the Anti-Bulling Club (ABC) at my school in the 6th grade, eventually becoming ABC president in the 10th grade. As president, my biggest priority was to make my school a place where students were welcomed to engage in discussion unafraid of what might be said; I tried accomplishing this goal by getting volunteers to hold the doors and greet peers to school each morning. Through creating this inviting atmosphere, students participated in more constructive conversation, leading to provoking questions that even teachers could not answer. When I transitioned to community college life in the…

My college offers an honors thesis option, a career center, and a writing center. Our academic center has had a few information sessions about the GRE as well as a mock exam this past semester. I am also fortunate to go to a small college where I have a lot of one-on-one guidance from my professors. I declared a major in philosophy my during first semester and my sophomore year I was told that my college was no longer going to offer a major in philosophy after our only philosophy professor left. My college still offers a minor in philosophy and we now have a full-time professor who teaches both religion and philosophy.…
