Personal Narrative: My Trip To Santa Maria High School

When we pulled into the parking lot of Santa Maria High School I realized it is not likely that Roberto will get away. The immigration officer told me to stay in the car and wait for him to return, and even if I wanted to I could not have gotten out since the officer locked the car and there was another in the back, who was keeping his eye on me. About half an hour later the immigration officer came back without Roberto and I heard him say "The kid went home for the day" to the officer, which gave me some hope that he would not get caught. Just as I began to think this, the car pulled out and started driving over to the barrack on the ranch that my family lived.

The entire drive over to the barracks my heart was racing faster than any car on the road. When we got to the barracks, both officers got out and told me to get out. As we made our way to the home I have been living in, I began to realize how helpless Papá will be and how

I tried to go back to sleep, but I couldn't so I helped Mamá with Rorra. After about an hour later, everyone was awake and staring at the door, waiting for the officers to come in and tell us that the papers were done. After about half an hour of waiting, the officers came in and told us to go to the restroom, and then wait out into the large room with the fish to leave. We all went to the hall with the bathroom, which was where Roberto had the best idea I can recall ever hearing. He told us there was a window in that hall, and we realized what he was thinking. Papá opened the window, looked out, and then crawled out and into the wet morning grass and told us to get out fast. Rorra went out first, and then Ruben, and then Torito, then me, and then Roberto, and finally Mamá went out. When we all got out, we shut the window, and we made our way over to the cabins, and we found someone that was willing to take back to Santa

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…
