Personal Narrative: My Trip To Raven Cliff Falls

Improved Essays
It was a Monday morning 7 A.M. and I was heading out on an adventure to go on my first hike. I had met up with the squad, which included me and three other guys, to challenge not only our physical ability, but also mental ability. Justin, Dan, Victor, and I drove singing every song possible for an hour to Raven Cliff Falls and began our journey.
The hike started out easily when we crossed the bridge as measly boys posing for the before picture. We had walked only about a mile down before we took our first break. We had stopped at a small campsite with logs on which to sit. I took a sip of water from my red and black hiking backpack to rehydrate. The forecast for the day was low 80’s for the morning. Everyone was rested and ready to finish the first half of the hike. Two hours and two and a half miles later we had made it to our destination.

The water shimmered as if there was a spotlight on a broadway musical. Dan had a great idea of climbing to the top of the rocks to see the scenery. We decided to climb and of course the effort was worth the view. We saw miles and miles of luscious oak wood trees and to the right of us the top of the waterfall. About 30 minutes later we had ended up in the freezing cold water right below the waterfall. I had the brilliant idea of standing under the waterfall. The water hit my body as if the droplets were bullets penetrating my skin. Everyone else joined to feel the excitement. Soon after we had packed up and were ready to

We could always wait until sunrise,” Dominic insisted. He was struggling to zip up his jacket, which was restricted by the heavy coat that he was also wearing. By the time they got done complaining, the rest of us had already left the cabin. We had already discussed this trip the day before: If you change your mind, you better say so early on, because the trail was a long way away from the cabin. While we were walking on the paved road leading up to the trail, it finally dawned on me:…

Easy had nothing to do with it! Although the Clear Creek Route may have been the easiest route to Shasta’s summit, I'm convinced that one can never over-train for a high elevation hike. I did not find the dental floss in the sign-in box. That I brought with me, at the request of my hygienist. She has a collection of flossing adventurers.…

Today Kit and i led the group to Izaak Walton lake. I was nervous this morning for taking such a big role. I didn’t want the power to get to my head and end up being mean or over demanding. In the early morning i went around telling people to get water and start undoing their tents. Surprisingly we ate, broke down our gear, and began our stretch circle forty minutes before the usual.…

We left Courthouse Rock one day later and we traveled fourteen miles to Chimney Rock. We didn't stop there. We just drove right by. This formation was named Chimney Rock because it looks like a chimney stack for a factory or a chimney from a burned down house. When we left to go to Fort Laramie a bolder fell on one of the wheels of our wagon.…

It was a windy October afternoon when my friend Andrew and I decided to hike a Creasent Trail. Even though the day was a little chilly, Andrew and I still managed to walk the trails. We hiked for about one hour and we were both trailing very far behind each other because we were both so tired. The trails were full of very colorful leaves and we knew that fall was coming. Both of us wore a lot of clothes to keep warm.…

As morning came the sunlight abatjoured through the dark dim lit canyons, of Gunnison National Park, Colorado . I slowly crept out of my sleeping bag, every muscle sore from yesterday's hike. I thought to myself how lucky I am to be backpacking through the National Parks, with four other girls. As I made some camomile tea over the warm fire, a bald eagle soared above the 8,775 ft tall canyons.…

The Wyoming backcountry is stunning. There is an infinite blanket of trees in every direction. The sky has two moods either happy: blue with cotton ball clouds or angry: a stormy scary black color. The air smells like sage and pine -- fresh and crisp. July, 2015, along with 11 close friends, 2 counselors, and a trip leader I went hiking in the backcountry of Wyoming on a 6 day backpacking trip.…

Finally, I had reached to top of Mount McGinnis with is another name for the Mendenhall Glacier. Above all, I was speechless and the view was breathtaking. Notably, I could see the crystal blue glacier below me and the rushing Nugget Falls waterfall was to my right. Markedly, 3,200 feet below me was also a crystal clear lake that was so still it looked as if it were glass. I could hear the birds chirping as they were flying above me…

Ever since my first backpacking trip 6 years ago, I’ve had an affinity for the Appalachian Trail. I’m constantly looking for excuses to mash our lives into the giant, 50 liter bags, and hit the trail for a few days. This past year, in early fall, I convinced my parents to don their sturdy boots and disappear into the wilds of bear state park with me for three days. We were dropped off at the top of Bear Mountain and, while my parents argued over directions, I wandered around the windswept ridge.…

In a valley surrounded by mountains lies a small town known as Idaho Falls, where I lived in the same house for the majority of my life. The area is dominantly LDS contributing to the extremely conservative views accepted by the majority of the population. Growing up in a sheltered community I really had no first-hand experience of the realities of the rest of the world major crimes were rarely heard of, I don’t recall ever having witnessed any sort of racism or segregation. By the time I was sixteen I was well traveled, my family went on yearly trips to different countries, thus I considered myself cultured in the ways of the world. I was naïve in believing that the rest of the country would have the same fundamental beliefs that I had grown…
