I decided to go and visit the Rainbow Falls Provincial Park because it seemed so unique and attractive. It was a beautiful summer day when my family and I arrived there at five o’clock and settled the trailer, and then went for a walk across Lake Superior. I was stunned by how beautiful and natural the lake was while reflecting the west sun shine.
As we walked down the lake we saw various types of birds, such as Mallar, Great Blue Heron, Belted Kingfisher, Eastern Phoebe and Swamp Sparrow. In the forest, we caught a glimpse of a moose and a dear.
We finished the day as we were enjoying the fresh weather, roasting marshmallows in a small fireplace.
Next morning, it was a chance for my dad to study clubmoss

Throughout the course of my short seventeen years, I have grown and learned many things. I grew up in a small rural town called Elk Creek. There are no strangers in Elk Creek; people sleep with their doors unlocked and their windows open. Everyone who has grown up in a small town can agree that friendship and community become a second nature trait. Although I have copious amounts of love and respect for where I grew up; I believe that I do not belong there.…

We left Courthouse Rock one day later and we traveled fourteen miles to Chimney Rock. We didn't stop there. We just drove right by. This formation was named Chimney Rock because it looks like a chimney stack for a factory or a chimney from a burned down house. When we left to go to Fort Laramie a bolder fell on one of the wheels of our wagon.…

Your peripheral vision is gone—there’s complete focus, then a silence so muted that all you know is the feeling of your heart beating. Then, as you stand there motionless, you feel the adrenaline. I mean really feel it—a syrup coursing through your veins, yet not a syrup as it moves faster than blood. You know when it hits your heart because it starts beating faster, faster, faster, and then the feeling is gone. Then everything is gone—emotions, breath, sensation……

In the fifth grade during spring break my family and I decided to go to Clifty Falls and walk around in the caves and on the walking trails. I had told my mom I was having trouble breathing that morning and wanted to stay home, but of course she would not let me because it was a”family event. ” We were there long enough to eat lunch and travel down a path to a waterfall and on the way back we decided to stop in one of the caves. About that time I felt my chest tightening up and knew that this was a bad idea to go into a damp cave when all I wanted to do was to go home and sleep.…

When I was younger, my parents often took my brother, Caleb, and me on many trips. We went on a variety of vacations, but one of my favorite places to go was Colorado. It was a slow moving watercourse most of the year but in the spring it flowed with force, swollen with the winter melt and emptying its contents into the Columbia River, before moving downstream onto Cascade Locks. At this time of the year the river was halfway to being frozen. The better part of Autumn was finished and the trees following the river were stark and almost leafless, the colorful reds and yellows of The Fall giving way to a brown carpet of mush. Today the black water was unhurried, its surface pockmarked by raindrops with the occasional swirl to draw attention to its icy currents.…

Throughout my elementary years I would hear talk of the annual youth trip up to Virginia, and in sixth grade, I finally had the chance to go. Wilderness Trail is a backpacking ministry located in the town of Troutdale. Each summer, groups come and go on a five day backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail.…

Of all of the things that I remember from my childhood, my memories of visiting national and state parks are of my fondest. I remember everything from the games that my family and I played in the car, to stopping at a diner on Route 66. I could not pick one of the places we went to as my favorite because all of them seemed to have their own hidden beauties. One of the most memorable trips was when we visited The Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, Arches, Zion, and Petrified Forest. Before I get started with the memories from the road trip I should first tell you about one of the main pieces in each of my memories: my brother Kyle.…
