It was devastating to learn I had to leave all the friends I had grown up with in order to go to a school where I didn’t know anybody. Now I have grown and I am fully Cheer and dance are my focus of energies outside of school. It is my first year doing both but it has been a great experience. My love for both all started when I was watching a tv show called One Tree Hill. They had cheerleaders and dancers and it looked really interesting so I thought about trying out. It was a little difficult because I am shy so I really had to step out of my comfort zone in order to do my best. My mom used to work 12 hour night shifts and go to college when she was 35 just so she could become a nurse. After four long years she graduated and now is a RN. I really look up to her for being able to manage throughout all the difficulty she must’ve faced during these 4 years. My dad always helps me with my homework even when he has multiple meetings. I respect him for that and hope I can do the same when I grow up. Siena has been through a lot but she is one of the most strongest person I know. When I’m not having a great day she’ll put aside her own problems for me and help me feel better. Even though we don’t go to the same school anymore, we will always have each other’s

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

As I looked around at my new classmates on my first day of public school, I was in complete shock. All around me I saw students who did not care in the slightest about their education and who saw school as simply a chore instead of an adventure. They slumped down in their chairs, cheated off of each other left and right, rolled their eyes at teachers, and spent each day watching the clock, waiting for the bell to ring that would released from their “prison.” That August morning, I felt like I was in a completely different world: one where I did not belong.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I was afraid to sharpen a pencil in second grade. My most vivid elementary school memories spring from instances when I was being reprimanded by an adult for doing something wrong. I did everything in my power to avoid those dreadful moments, but they still presented themselves on occasion. Even now I feel a pit in my stomach when I recall the way I felt during those times, regardless of the fact that almost all of them would easily roll off my back if they occurred today.…
