On Wednesday, September 21st, the junior and senior class of my school went to Franklinton High School—where we were introduced to post-secondary institutions such as state universities and local community colleges. I admittedly already had a fair idea of what I planned on doing after school. My “carefully thought-out plan” was this: I would go to Northshore Technical Community College in the summer to get my CNA so that I can gain the patient-care experience necessary for my later plans for college. I would then attend LSU for four years and earn a bachelor’s in dietetics, and possibly minor in psychology. Afterward, I would attend a PA school somewhere within the US—possibly the one at LSU. Because my mind was already so set on this plan, it felt as though my options at this event were fairly limited. I saw no point in visiting the booths belonging to schools that were not on my “to-do list”. However, boredom and curiosity drew me to consider possibilities I had previously neglected—and now, though I have become more uncertain of what exactly will be the plot for the next decade or so, I can safely say that the future looks much brighter than it had before.

PRCC is a community college situated in Poplarville, Mississippi that offers many of the same opportunities as Northshore, but with one incredible benefit: any student attending PRCC with an ACT score above a 29 will have all fees waivered. I scored a 31. Though I was uncertain if this includes briefly attending a month-long program, I discovered upon further research that PRCC is generally much cheaper than Northshore—even when non-resident tuition is considered.
