Personal Narrative: My Trip To Mackinaw Island

Improved Essays
I never really worried that anything seriously bad or terrifying might happen to me or my family. I was naive to the reality of death and part of me believed that death only occurred in movies to make them more suspenseful and emotional, but then again, I was only around 7 or 8 years old. I still believed in Santa Claus when this horrifying event took place and snapped me into reality. It was summertime, and we were going on vacation to Mackinaw Island, which is located in Michigan. We were always taking trips to Kentucky and numerous other places, but we already knew the directions for those destinations by heart at this point, and Mackinaw Island was a new experience for us. My grandparents had decided to accompany us on our trip, which made driving easier because there were more people to take turns driving. At the time, we owned a white suburban. There were three very back seats, three mid-back seats, and then, of course, the driver and passenger seat. Three of my four siblings were in the very back seats, and the other sibling was not on the trip with us. The mid-back seats at the time consisted of my mother, my grandma, and I. I was in the middle seat, my grandma was on my left, and my mother was on my right. My step-dad was driving and my grandpa was sitting in the passenger seat for only a few moments at this point, because …show more content…
We were at a standstill. We always anticipate a little bit of traffic on our trips, so we just continued waiting calmly. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, another car crashed into the back left side of our car. Our car then crashed into the concrete wall on the side of the road. I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and as i mentioned before, i was in the middle seat. On impact i went flying upward towards the windshield and i was as far forward in the car as my stepdad, who was driving. Luckily, my grandma and my mother both put their arms out in front of me and forced me back into the

As the daughter of parents who love to travel, I’ve had the pleasure of travelling across Canada and America as well as a few other countries from a young age. I have visited the loud and bustling streets of Tokyo and the ethereal gardens in Kyoto, stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon, walked the strip in Las Vegas, and watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean in Martha’s Vineyard. Although I should be able to look back on a childhood filled with events and memories from trips, I find it difficult to recall most vacations without a visual prompt. When I flip through old family photo albums, I don’t recall much more than what is shown in their pages. The outdated clothing, the people, and the locations are seen in the images, and therefore…

“Tuck and roll” that’s what they say when jumping off or out of a moving vehicle but that didn’t work for me. I was about five years old, I was visiting my grandparents that I hadn’t seen in a while. I was riding with my dad on a four wheeler and I was having fun until I felt the four wheeler jump, and then I turned around to see my dad jumping off. That was when I got scared. I tried to drive it, but with my family, chasing and yelling for me to jump off it was hard to do.…

It didn’t make it any better that I was beyond tired. Dragging my feet as I walked, eyes barely open, I was a living zombie. The sun burnt into my eyes worse than a death stare from a hungry gray wolf, in some spots it was like a harsh winter evening, and sometimes if you moved ten feet you would start to sweat a waterfall and would have to move back to the shade. It wasn’t a good day for my service project. Especially with the fact that it was at the end of the week, and I had just gotten off a bone chilling first guide in Fort Mackinac.…

Personal Narrative rough draft : Car accident It was early in April of 2016, sunny and beautiful, the day was sure to be full of excitement and energy as student council speeches are due and the final trimester of the year was slowly coming to an end. I woke up that morning to my mother blissfully waking me up with my light turning on and her sweet beautiful voice saying “Wake up, Joey,” I slowly rolled out of bed and stumbled into the shower trying hopelessly to escape the morning and the horrible sensations of waking up early on a Wednesday. As the warm water rushed over me I rehearsed in my head how I would present my student council speech to my teacher. Little did I know how different it would actually be that day.…

My previous camping trips I have taken in the past years have been memorable and full of hardship. I consider myself a very outgoing and adventurous person, that is why I go on crazy trips. Canoeing is my preferred way of traveling when touring lakes and rivers such as the Boundary waters and the Flambeau river. Major disadvantage of canoes is that they weigh up to 85 pounds. The weight matters being when crossing land to get to the next lake the canoe goes on your shoulders to carry it.…

I had not ever been in a car accident before in my life, so when I experienced one, I did not enjoy nearly dying. It happened four years ago, I can still vividly remember everything. I was with my sister, Nakesha, she was driving since I was not old enough to drive yet. We were having a good day and had decided to go to my dad’s for a while to see him since our parents are divorced. We spent a considerable amount of time with our dad who kept making us laugh like he always does.…
