One unique, true thing about me is that I own 5 Newfoundlands. I’ve owned a total of 5 in my lifetime. A lot can be learned from owning Newfoundlands. One of them we own now, Hoosier, is the size of a horse! On 2 legs, he would be about 6 feet tall.…

Imagine a place where everywhere you look, you see beauty, everywhere you smell is crisp fresh air. Everywhere surrounding you are ginormous mountains with snow slowly melting and one huge blue body of water. There are trees all over the place, and everywhere you look you see nature and all of God’s creations. This fascinating place is Lake Tahoe, in Nevada. Lake Tahoe is absolutely one of the most gorgeous places I have ever been.…

It didn’t make it any better that I was beyond tired. Dragging my feet as I walked, eyes barely open, I was a living zombie. The sun burnt into my eyes worse than a death stare from a hungry gray wolf, in some spots it was like a harsh winter evening, and sometimes if you moved ten feet you would start to sweat a waterfall and would have to move back to the shade. It wasn’t a good day for my service project. Especially with the fact that it was at the end of the week, and I had just gotten off a bone chilling first guide in Fort Mackinac.…

I remember when I use to live in Newfoundland, it was so different for me since I was born and raised in Brampton Ontario, and there was no multi culture on this island. When I first moved there I remember people would stare at me and look at me differently because of my skin color they would automatically assume I wasn’t from Canada or not Canadian because I wasn’t “white”. They wouldn’t consider me as a “Canadian” as well as a “Newfie” because I didn’t have the “Canadian” accent. Another reason was because I wasn’t big on hockey or watched the games they would be so confused and offended because I didn’t have much knowledge on the hockey teams. Remembering all of this again the reason being for many of them not considering me as a “Canadian”…

It took us 5 hours to get there we had fun on the way jamming to music and my dad thought he could go faster than us so we had to show him who was faster. We had lunch at KFC then we headed to the waterpark called Myrtle Waves. When we got there we were already ready but there was a long line so we had to wait for an hour or so. Once we went into the park the ground was so hot it was like we were walking on fire. My sisters and I ran off and left my stepmom and dad with the little ones Dj and Jordan.…

My New England Vacation - Kennebunkport, ME Our next stop was Kennebunkport, Maine, a beautiful little town mostly known for shipbuilding and fishing. The people are very friendly and laid back. We stayed one night at the White Barn Inn, a very unique inn. There were some interesting fixtures at the inn such as the hand-painted furniture, beautiful garden and my favorite; a sleigh bed for a good night's sleep.…

Our vacation to Mackinac Island started out normal, but the rest of the trip… not so much. My brother and I were having a nice picnic by arch rock, eating grilled cheese sandwiches, when I noticed a strange shimmer in the unique formation. “Does Arch Rock look like it’s shimmering to you?” I asked my brother, wondering if I was hallucinating. He glanced over at the formation and a look of curiosity quickly spread across his face, answering my question.…

The community of focus for the following midterm papers will revolve around my own community of Huron. Through my experience, I was one of the fortunate individuals that overcame the obstacles of poverty, racism, drugs, gangs, low self-esteem, bullying, and lack of mental support that exist within the community. Because of the obstacles, many individuals either drop out of high school, attend community college and never finish, or in some cases, follow the pipeline of attending a community college and afterwards, transfer to CSU Fresno. Much of this baffles me as I question why individuals don’t aspire to attend a four-year university outside of the Central Valley after high school or why many don’t take the challenge to apply to a UC or Ivy…

I never really worried that anything seriously bad or terrifying might happen to me or my family. I was naive to the reality of death and part of me believed that death only occurred in movies to make them more suspenseful and emotional, but then again, I was only around 7 or 8 years old. I still believed in Santa Claus when this horrifying event took place and snapped me into reality. It was summertime, and we were going on vacation to Mackinaw Island, which is located in Michigan. We were always taking trips to Kentucky and numerous other places, but we already knew the directions for those destinations by heart at this point, and Mackinaw Island was a new experience for us.…

The date was January 24, 2017, and it felt like the most regular day you could have. I woke up and got ready like normal, and went to school, and I remember being really excited for that day because it was Friday and we played Sioux center that night in the basketball game. I was excited because that was always a good game, and there were always a lot of people there and it was a great atmosphere. That day we also had one of our early out days, which made the day even better because that meant that we wouldn’t get too much homework. I actually had a great day that day.…
