Personal Narrative: My Trip To Las Vegas

Decent Essays
When I was little I always imagined visiting California, so when my Mom told me that we were going to visit my uncle and cousins one summer I was more than excited, because i hadn’t seen them in years. Ii was even more excited but nervous about riding a plane. I was so eager that a few days before leaving i could barely sleep. I never once had any doubts about our trip. The day we left had its ups and downs. A few downs include waking up at about two in the morning, grabbing covers for the plane, carrying all of the bags, and TSA. After doing all of that I was eso exhausted that I ended up sleeping for most of the plane ride. An up had to be our layover in Las Vegas. Las Vegas’ airport is so amazing because they had several slot machines

Every morning, I make a cup of café con leche and tune into channel 5’s jingle of Matt Goss’ “Lovely Las Vegas” at 5 am before I get ready to make my way Downtown — a modern piece of the desert amidst the heart of the valley. As I look up at the street after struggling to untangle my headphones on my way to the bus top, I encounter new faces and wonder where they are going. My destination is seeing the sunrise appear with the silhouette of the Stratosphere Casino on one side of the field and the Downtown skyline on the other as the bus drops me off on 7th Street to complete my long morning routine – only to repeat the same journey the next day. There are days in which I would like to skip out on my morning walks to catch up on a couple minutes…

In January of last year I went on a trip to Colorado on a "college visit" with a friend and my father to University of Colorado Boulder. We left Wednesday night, skipping school both Thursday and Friday. We did go to the college and took a tour of the campus on Thursday which I greatly enjoyed, it is beautiful out there and at elevation there is very little humidity. The true intention of the trip, as important as the college visit was, was to go to Breckenridge Resort and spend the weekend snowboarding. A couple of my dad's friends were also going and we were going to share their timeshare.…

Although I am embarrassed to tell this story, for it screams massive class and racial privilege, I guess it will be another step in the acceptance of my innate privilege and social status. A few weeks ago, I had the chance to hang out with a high school buddy of mine, whom I had not seen in a while. He texted me asking if I was interesting in making a trip to the L’auberge Casino, for his girlfriend had just recently turned twenty-one and was interested in trying out her new legal freedom. I had not been to the casino since my twenty-first birthday, about ten months ago, so I decided that playing with the slot machines would not hurt. As the time to leave came, I hopped in my car, left my house, located in a subdivision on Staring Lane,…

They were visiting Los Angeles and decided to hire a car to drive to Palm Springs and Las Vegas, and then back to Los Angeles. The conversation was terrific, and they both thought I had a fabulous attitude. They have a very relaxed, non-judgemental, and open-minded outlook that I expect from the French and German people, which put me at ease. I would have enjoyed spending more time talking with them, but it was now 11PM, and I had to leave soon due to my early start at work the following day. I informed them that I'm spending Thursday and Friday in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving in case they're back there by then, so we exchanged contact details.…

“Childhood means simplicity. Look at the world with the child 's eye it is very beautiful”(Satyarthi). For the most part our childhood is something that at the time goes unnoticed by us, but as time goes on it becomes cherished. Growing up is a significant factor of life and for some the transition to adulthood is a long process of hardships, responsibilities, or circumstances and for me what helped the transition was my trip to Colombia. Being globally aware isn’t usually a part of childhood and is what can mold our identity, which creates a huge area of growth into becoming an adult and understanding our surrounding.…
