Personal Narrative: My Trip To Kansas

Decent Essays
Have you ever been to Kansas? I went on a trip to Kansas about four years ago with my uncle Brian and Andy Brunsma. The reason we went down there was to buy a truck for my grandpa.
We left my grandpa’s house in the morning with his Cadillac. The gas gauge in the car did not work, but my grandpa said it was full of gas. As we got near Le Mars the car started to spit and sputter and then proceeded to shut off. We got out on the side of the road and looked it over and found out my grandpa was wrong. The car was not full of gas. So we sat on the side of the road for about thirty minutes until a cop that was driving by stopped to ask us if we needed help. We told him we ran out of gas and needed a ride to Le Mars to get a gas can and some gas. The cop said he would give one of us a ride so my Uncle Brian went with him. Andy and I sat on the side of the road and waited for them to come back with the gas. After about an hour passed, they finally came back. Brian had the gas and the cop was not very happy. Brian, who is not the smartest guy around, lit a cigarette in the cop’s car while the cop was getting

Brian and I went to go talk to the salesman while Andy looked the truck over. Andy did not find anything wrong with the truck, so after talking to the salesman, we decided to buy it. Andy and I took the truck and headed home, while Brian took the car and followed us. Once we got about halfway home, Brian stopped and took over driving the truck so Andy could rest. The ride home was pretty boring, the only exciting thing that happened was we watched a guy on a motorcycle outrun the cops on the interstate. We got home late that night and dropped of the truck, Brian dropped me off at home and he went home. That is the story of my trip to Kansas. It was a nice trip even though it was not long and we didn’t do a lot of fun stuff. I enjoyed looking at trucks and would probably do it again if I got the

Imagine traveling in the bare winds and rain, running on buffalo chips, and not a lick of sleep. This was the life of a cowboy during the long drive. These long drives took place during the Civil War and late 1800’s. Cowboys would advance herds from the southern tip of Texas to the small towns of Kansas where they would be fattened up to then be transported to Chicago where they would be slaughtered (Intro). While this trip must have been adventurous as it was difficult, the question is if I will re-up next year?…

Over summer I went with some friends to the Johnson Shut-ins in Missouri. It was the first time I went camping in years and it was one of the coolest trips I’ve ever been on. It started with the drive which was about two and a half hours through isolated roads which eventually got kind of creepy because we were in the middle of nowhere, every house had confederate flags posted, and we were running out of gas. We finally found the place and found our campground and we wanted to find out what the shut-ins were exactly. It was on the other side of the campground…

Okay so basically i'm supposed to tell you about a time in which i was judged by a single story and of course I have many stories to tell. There’s the classic getting watched in a store, or the whole “I saw my uncle get pulled over by a cop for no reason” stories but really what else can I talk about? I’m black, and racism is a very real thing and I experience it on a daily basis, but I will never forget the time that my family and I were driving to North Carolina. We stopped at a gas station along the way and of course as all road trips go we had to get gas, use the washroom and get snacks.…
