Personal Narrative-My Trip To Kansas River

Improved Essays
The trip has finally come as the green prairie grass is shooting up from the warmed soil. We set off as soon as the grass was a good height, but were delayed when a screw came loose after a bump in the trail. A little while later and we were back on the trail going at a steady pace. Hope and little John rode on Silver for the most part, but Grace stepped on a fallen branch wrong and hurt her ankle so she replaced John on Silver. The farther we went along the more crowded it became before we had to slow down to a crawl. A helpful woman in the wagon ahead of us told us there was a raft bringing people across the Kansas River. After a very long wait, we finally reached the raft, paid our dollar fare, and one by one were shipped to the other side.

In 2011 my family and I took a trip out West in an RV. My family consists of my parents, older brother Patrick ( now a sophomore at Madison), younger brother Declan ( now a sophomore at MUHS), and my younger sister Nora ( now in 8th grade). We were all there for this trip just younger. On our trip one of the main attractions we stopped at for a few days was at the Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole Wyoming. The Tetons are a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming.…

As the powerful Colorado River churned beneath me, as it has for centuries, and the relentless sun peaked over the top of the North Rim, I could not help but feel astounded. I was in a timeless place: a place disconnected from the society I had left behind miles ago. Down here, in the lowest section of the Grand Canyon, it was just me, my friends, and the heat. Always the heat. We had started our journey, a run from the Grand Canyon’s North Rim to the South Rim, at 4 AM in a futile attempt to avoid the skyrocketing temperature and finish before the sun became the determining factor in the success of our venture.…

It has been a week since we left from Independence, and I finally have some time to sit and write. So much has happened since last time I wrote. For a few examples: crossing the Kansas River, experiencing what it is like to be out on the trail, and not to mention a little love action going on in between Viola and Nathan's son, John. They sit out by the fire for hours, after the rest of us go to bed, and just talk. My wife thinks it is the cutest, but I have some suspicions about this boy.…

I open my eyes to bright lights and blank, cold, lifeless walls. As I turn my head I notice the IV in my arm. The slow, steady drip of the medication reminds me of a river. No. More like a mountain stream, alive in the spring, given life by the melting snow.…

It was a slow moving watercourse most of the year but in the spring it flowed with force, swollen with the winter melt and emptying its contents into the Columbia River, before moving downstream onto Cascade Locks. At this time of the year the river was halfway to being frozen. The better part of Autumn was finished and the trees following the river were stark and almost leafless, the colorful reds and yellows of The Fall giving way to a brown carpet of mush. Today the black water was unhurried, its surface pockmarked by raindrops with the occasional swirl to draw attention to its icy currents.…

My previous camping trips I have taken in the past years have been memorable and full of hardship. I consider myself a very outgoing and adventurous person, that is why I go on crazy trips. Canoeing is my preferred way of traveling when touring lakes and rivers such as the Boundary waters and the Flambeau river. Major disadvantage of canoes is that they weigh up to 85 pounds. The weight matters being when crossing land to get to the next lake the canoe goes on your shoulders to carry it.…

In addition to my relationship with River affecting Kiana, it affected my relationship with my mom. I was never home because being home depressed me. I would look around my room, and be flooded with memories from when our relationship was happy and healthy, so I tried my best to avoid it. I am undecided due to the fact that I believe that personal associations can have a positive or negative influence of a name.…
